I know...I know. We must not condemn all muslims as the death toll of our fellow citizens continues to rise.

No Muslims - No Terrorism (Vinyl or Magnetic Bumper Sticker or License Plate)

"Yemeni officials said the suspect was an Islamist militant who told police after his arrest that he had shot the two men and two women to "cleanse his religion and get closer to Allah," according to Reuters."

Is there still REAL doubts in anyone's mind?

That's a pretty big statement coming from Reuters--they don't believe that Islam can ever be the cause of death, destruction and mayhem.

Yepp--you're right. Doubt the libeal media will ever point that out, though. Have to sanitize the Chritian part out--thus they are being called "humanitarian aid" workers. Granted, they were offering humanitarian aid, but they were evangelical missionaries whose desire was that those they served come to know the Savior.

I can guarantee you that those killed in Yemen would not be in favor of that. It may be hard to believe, but they actually greatly loved the Muslims they served. If you want to honor these dead go share Christ with a Muslim in your city.

Will Patty Murray condemn these U.S. humanitarian workers for interferring with Osama's humanitarian efforts, and determine this was the cause for their deaths? Come on Patty, don't let your liberal base down now, you are on a roll. During the height of the impending Iraq invasion I think Patty Murray ought to make a Sean Penn quest to validate that Iraq is free of WMD,and remember to wear a homing device so the military can track yuor movements.

Yemen Arrests Man in Slaying of Americans
By AHMED AL-HAJ
Associated Press Writer

JIBLA, Yemen (AP) -- A suspected Muslim extremist shot and killed three American missionaries and seriously wounded a fourth at a Southern Baptist hospital in southern Yemen, security officials said.

The suspected attacker, a Yemeni, was later arrested, the officials said on condition of anonymity.

Americans have been repeatedly warned to take care in Yemen, a largely lawless country known as a haven for Muslim militants and the ancestral homeland of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden. The country has been a key front in the U.S.-led war on terrorism.

Officials said the gunman entered the complex of Jibla Baptist Hospital in the town of Jibla hiding a semiautomatic rifle under his jacket to make it resemble a child.

The gunmen entered a room where the hospital director was holding a meeting and opened fire, said a statement from the Southern Baptist Convention's International Mission Board, based in Richmond, Va.

Three people were killed instantly. Yemeni officials said all three were shot in the head. The gunman then headed to the hospital's pharmacy and opened fire, wounding the pharmacist, the Yemeni officials said. Jibla is in Ibb province, 125 miles south of the capital, San`a.

The Southern Baptist International Mission Board identified the dead as hospital director William E. Koehn, 60, of Arlington, Texas who had planned to retire next year after 28 years of service; purchasing agent Kathleen A. Gariety, 53, of Wauwatosa, Wis.; and Dr. Martha C. Myers, 57, of Montgomery, Ala. The statement identified the pharmacist as Donald W. Caswell, 49, of Levelland, Texas.

Caswell was shot in the abdomen and hospital officials said he was in critical condition and struggling for his life. The hospital was cordoned off as forensic experts gathered evidence.

"We are devastated by this news," International Mission Board spokesman Larry Cox was quoted in the statement as saying. "We are moving quickly to minister to family members located in Yemen as well as the United States."

Cox said no decision had been made about evacuating Americans connected with the hospital.

The hospital operators said there had been no reason to believe the hospital would be the target of an attack.

There were "no ongoing concerns" about an attack, said Wendy Norvelle, spokeswoman for the International Mission Board. "We've been there for 35 years."

Officials said they believed the gunman was a Muslim fundamentalist.

An Interior Ministry official identified the 30-year-old assailant as Abed Abdul Razak Kamel, the official Yemeni news agency Saba reported.

Kamel said during interrogation that he plotted the shooting in collaboration with Ali al-Jarallah, who was arrested for shooting dead a senior Yemeni leftist politician on Saturday and whom Yemeni officials called a Muslim extremist.

Another security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said authorities were searching for a cell made up of five to eight people targeting foreigners and secular personalities in Yemen. He did not provide further details.

The U.S. Embassy in San'a issued a brief statement, posted on its Web site, condemning the attack "on American citizens who have long been providing humanitarian services to Yemeni citizens at the Baptist hospital in Jibla."

"We call upon the Yemeni government to bring those responsible to justice," the U.S. Embassy statement said.

The embassy also asked Americans in Yemen to enhance their security and said it was requesting additional protection for them and was sending a team to Jibla to help with the investigation.

The Southern Baptist missionary board said its 35-year-old hospital in Jibla treats more than 40,000 patients annually, providing care free to those cannot afford it.

The board's web site said that besides their work at the 80-bed hospital, missionaries taught English and clinical skills at a nearby Yemeni nursing school.

The killings are "a crime unacceptable in any religion. This contradicts Islam," said a Jibla woman who gave only her first name, Fatima, and said she used the hospital. "They cared for us and looked after us. I can't even count the number of children they treated and saved."

Impoverished, factionalized, predominantly Muslim Yemen has for years been a haven for wanted Muslim extremists. Bin Laden enlisted thousands of Yemenis to fight alongside the mujahedeen of Afghanistan in their U.S.-backed war against an occupation Soviet army in the 1980s. Many returned when the Soviets withdrew, and they are a powerful political force here.

In one of several such alerts, a Nov. 14 U.S. Embassy message to Americans here said the U.S. government "continues to receive credible warnings that additional terrorist activities against Western and American interests in Yemen are being planned."

On Oct. 6, an explosives-laden boat rammed a French oil tanker off the coast of Yemen, killing one member of the tanker's crew, tearing a hole in the vessel and spilling some 90,000 barrels of oil. U.S. intelligence officials suspect militants with links to al-Qaida in the attack.

The French tanker scenario recalled the Oct. 12, 2000, attack on the USS Cole, which was rammed by a small, explosives-laden boat in the southern port of Aden.

Seventeen U.S. sailors were killed in that attack, which was blamed on al-Qaida. Al-Qaida also is held responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States.

Yemen has signed on as Washington's partner in the war on terrorism launched after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Three killed, one injured in attack
on Baptist hospital in Yemen

By Mark Kelly

RICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- Three Americans were killed and another wounded
Monday, Dec. 30, when a lone gunman attacked a Baptist hospital in
Jibla, Yemen.

Hospital administrator William E. Koehn, purchasing agent Kathleen A.
Gariety and physician Martha C. Myers were killed and pharmacist Donald
W. Caswell was injured in the early morning attack.

The Americans were involved in a meeting at the beginning of the work
day at the hospital. A single gunman burst into the room and opened
fire.

Koehn, Gariety and Myers were killed immediately. The gunman reportedly
then moved to another room, where he wounded Caswell. He also aimed his
gun at a Filipino hospital employee, but the weapon did not fire.

A 35-year-old man surrendered to hospital security personnel and was
taken into custody.

Koehn, 60, of Arlington, Texas, had planned to retire in October 2003
after 28 years of service. Gariety, 53, was from Wauwatosa, Wisc.
Myers, 57, was from Montgomery, Ala. Caswell, 49, is from Levelland,
Texas. Caswell was taken to surgery, where two bullets were removed. He
is expected to recover from his injuries.

All four served at the hospital as representatives of the Southern
Baptist International Mission Board.

'DEVASTATED'

"We are devastated by this news," said board spokesman Larry Cox. "We
are moving quickly to assist family members. We're grateful God spared
the lives of others and pray that His spirit will meet the needs of
everyone touched by this crisis."

As news of the attack spread, the streets outside were filled with
local residents, said Kaye Rock, another Southern Baptist worker at the
hospital.

"People here loved these people so much," Rock said. "Yesterday Bill
gave sacks of wheat and sugar to widows and divorced women in city.
He's been doing that almost every month with relief donations we
receive.

"The people here who love us are decimated even more than we are,
because they don't see the big picture," she said. "But the Bible says
'Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the blood of his saints.' The
church is built on the blood of the martyrs, and any of those three
people would have gladly given their lives for that."

'UNDETERRED'

The murders won't deter Americans at the hospital from their ministry,
Rock said.

"We can't let someone with a gun make us afraid to do what God wants us
to do. We're asking people to pray that these deaths will not be a
senseless waste, but that God will complete all He has intended here
and that He will be glorified."

No decision has been made about relocating other Americans connected
with the hospital, Cox said. The American embassy in Sanaa advised
Americans in the country to enhance their personal security and asked
the Yemeni government to provide additional security for Americans.

The Southern Baptist International Mission Board has operated Jibla
Baptist Hospital, located about 120 miles south of Yemen's capital,
Sanaa, for 35 years. More than 40,000 patients a year are treated at
the facility, which is on property owned by the Yemeni government. The
hospital provides free care and medicine to those who cannot afford it.
It also has responded to relief needs during earthquakes and famine.

"Our personnel, as Americans and Christians, are well aware of the
risks of living and serving in a place like Yemen," said Jerry Rankin,
International Mission Board president. "Yet their love of the Yemeni
people and obedience to a conviction of God's leadership has been
expressed in a willingness to take that risk -- and to give of their
lives. Our hearts go out to their families, colleagues and local
friends, who join us in grieving this tragic loss."

The International Mission Board (www.imb.org) is an entity of the 16- million-member Southern Baptist Convention. It has 5,487 missionaries
working among 1,497 people groups worldwide. In 2001, Southern Baptist
missionaries and their co-workers baptized more than 395,773 new
believers and organized 5,775 churches.

Guess this blows the Lib’s theory of just understanding and helping these people to prevent terrorism.

International Mission Board statement says it all..... "We've been there for 35 years."

Gee maybe in a few hundred years, if we just keep turning the other cheek, the Islamic religion will stop killing the Christians!

I’m with Rangel, start the draft, at least a few Libs will see reality.

It's interesting to note how quickly the killer was arrested. There are plenty of bad guys in Yemen. No doubt about that. But who's side is the government on? They did, after all, arrest this guy.

Maybe they arrested the wrong guy.

Maybe they arrested the right guy but didn't prevent the killings when they could have.

Or, maybe they really did do the right thing and did it quickly.

What's going on with the Yemen government?

The gunman was not from the area of the hospital--he travelled a distance to do the deed. The locals from the area of the hospital probably helped in apprehending the perp.

From the Southern Baptist IMB press release: :As news of the attack spread, the streets outside were filled with local residents, said Kaye Rock, another Southern Baptist worker at the hospital.

"People here loved these people so much," Rock said. "Yesterday Bill gave sacks of wheat and sugar to widows and divorced women in city. He's been doing that almost every month with relief donations we receive.

"The people here who love us are decimated even more than we are, because they don't see the big picture," she said. "But the Bible says 'Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the blood of his saints.' The church is built on the blood of the martyrs, and any of those three people would have gladly given their lives for that."

Note that the director was distributing food to the neediest of people just the day before he was martyred.

"We are advising American citizens in Yemen to enhance their personal security and are requesting additional protection for American citizens in Yemen."

I would suggest any American in a Muslim shiite hole leave. Let the towels try to run their countries on their own.
