Your point is not relevant... Social workers in CA don't give out aid... they only make referrals...

Great... You never did answer my question about whether or not the US should have these programs available or not even for US citizens...

I think they should be privitized and eventually be by voluntary contributions. I think if they actually had all welfare recipients have to physically show up all at one time, they would find out many don't actually exist or have multiple identities. Or just tell them all they have a job and must report or be cut off ---probably many wouldn't show at all.

AZ had a program where they did privatize some benefits but they found they saved more money by having gov't employees determining eligibility benefits because private pays more in salaries...

We've even seen that at the workplace ---something I wouldn't have thought about ---we had to physically show up to prove we existed because they were making sure there were no "ghost" employees which are people who left but whose supervisors keep them on the payroll and will even clock them in and out ----easy to do with a joint bank account I guess.

BTW, they have to show up twice a year... It takes a lot of staffing to do it more...

So is it retraining to pick lettuce that we should be doing? High tech is apparently out now as well as manufacturing....and the garment industry....and soon driving a truck won't be an option....

I was and still am in retraining for high tech but I'll stick with what I have for jobs now ---but I have to figure out what my retraining should be in now.

Look at what's profitable in high tech now: entertainment. If I was retraining for anything high tech - and thankfully I'm not, I jettisoned high tech from my life in 2000 when it became painfully obvious that much of it was smoke and mirrors - I'd look at the gaming industry or something in CGI graphics.

If you land a job with ILM I'd love to know what happens in Ep. III before its released...

and say I got a job at Burger King ... when exactly would I have time to interview at electronics companies ... especially in other areas like Boston or Orlando ????

NOBODY works 40 hours/week at a fast food joint. How do I know? Because I teach Perl/C++/Java during the week and serve up sandwiches and fries on Friday night. (I do that for the employee discount, by the way. I can feed the whole family for $10.)

Go down to your public library and read "What Color Is Your Parachute?". Any edition will do; they're pretty much all the same.

Nope, I'm very happy doing what I do now. The only thing I do with computers now is Internet, word processing, spread sheets, some (blessedly few) Powerpoint, and an occasional database. There aren't enough horses in the world to drag me back to the "industry". :-)

Besides you already know what happens. Anakin grows more powerful, whatever-the-hell-his-name-is-Dooku kills Padame (but not before giving birth to Luke and Leia), the emperor convinces Anakin that it was the Jedi that betrayed him, Anakin hunts down and dispatches Dooku then turns his light saber on the rest of the Jedi, he dispatches Mace Windu at the edge of a volcano, Obi-Wan sends Anakin into the volcano, Obi-Wan spirits the twins off to episode four, Yoda retreats to Dagoba, and, finally, the emperor transforms young Skywalker into James Earl Jones. :-)

Tough times are like that, they reveal character

Agreed. There are jobs out there, not only should we stop this UI nonsense, we should actually prosecute people who stay unemployed too long. That would quickly weed out some of the bad character people.

. I tried hard not to spend much on Christmas because I don't think things are getting better anytime soon.

Unfortunately I think you're right. I am amazed that our political class seems determined to continue the march towards globalism even as the people they supposedly represent lose wealth, opportunity and Constitutional rights.

I am sure some folks here will tell you that is because you got lazy :(

No doubt. The best way to make a statement is to vote against virtually all incumbents and continue to do so until we have elected officials that support the Constitution and the American people and renounce globalism and one world government.

I'm lazy and I still have a job! What's that make me? When I wuzn't lazy some years back, I wuz laid off! Point of this? Barbra Streisand is Barbra Streisand, still cain't sing, emoting like hell ain't singing, and emoting like hell here ain't being right.

Shiite happens, I'm saying, and many lost their jobs, and possessions not due to their own lack of foresight laziness or whatever, but due to, well, shiite happening. They need help more than the sugar growers, ____________________ and ________________ (fill in the blanks) growers and the parasitic classes we send without a complaint to Washington and 52 state capitals!
