Twin boys Got up and introduced themselves as "La-mon-je-Lo" and "O-ron-je-LO. Their names were spelled "Lemonjello" and "Orangejello". See. Everyone has a different version of this story and everyone swears to it. Lord, you people are simple.

RE your post #78 - I stand by my comment because it is ther truth. It is extremely difficult to correctly pronounce today's student names, especially black names. Try it yourself sometime, and see how far you get with some of these names.

True story:
I met a white guy from WV during basic training at Ft. Knox many years ago. His name was/is Gordon Gordon Gordon.
He reminds me of George Foreman's kids.

I don't know about the 'medical term' thing, but a black woman in my hometown named her son....Regret. He was in 6th grade when I was in 4th, so I didn't know him, but I did find his photo and name in the school yearbook. I took it to my mother so we could laugh at it together (I was only 9), but she didn't find it at all amusing. "How can parents do that to their kids?" , she wondered. And that's certainly a valid question. I cannot believe that that woman was ignorant of the literal meaning of so common a word as "Regret", either.

Here are some names I've heard here in rural central VA:
Afealia (pronounced "Ah-Feel-ya") and Toenaylia (pronounced "Toe-nail-ya"), DeShawn, LaMont, LeVaughn (pronounced "Lee-Vaughn") & LaMar (pronounced "La-Mah"); DuMont, DuMar or DaMar (pronounced "Doo-Mah" & "Da-Mah"), Tameeka & Tameekwa; Shaneekwa & Shameekwa; DaLong & Darnell (pronounced "Dah-Nayl").
It may be a "Southern" thing, I don't know...?

Some of those names you mentioned are quite common from what I have seen of today's students.

"A school teacher pal of mine had a brother and sister from the same family in his class. They are Orangello and Lemonjello, pronounced Or-ANG-ja-lo and Le-MON-ja-lo." Careful, here, and check your facts. I heard this one ten years ago in Oakland, California, not Arkansas. Black Americans are giving their children odd and wierd names but this one is definitely an urban legend.

Hilarious thread.
Ever seen a "Female" [pronounced: Fa-MA-lee] or a "Seiko"?
