The employment section in the Memphis paper is thin, real thin, the thinest I've ever seen it in 17 years. Truck driving and security guard jobs seem to domineer what there is of it.

Scary, very scary. The jobs offered up here are nurses, home care givers and truckers. The U.S. is in a sad state of affairs, Gail!

?Regrettably, the House Republican leadership turned their backs on these families and refused to act, and the administration chose not to intervene before Congress adjourned,? Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle said Friday. ?This inaction by Republicans was unconscionable then and it is even more so now.?

What lil Tommy Dasshole does not say is how much pork they wanted added to the bill that was just plain irresponsible. Time to look at that bill and see the REAL reason why it was defeated. Socialist politics hard at work. And the sheeple will believe and bow down to these leftist pigs.

Good mornin SheLion from a fellow Mainer. I read your posts regularly. Maine truely is in financial trouble. And they elect a governor who wants (secretly) a service tax to pull us out of the debt left behind by King. I'm afraid wer'e in for a long ride to ruin. Freeperly yours, DokMad aka DrMadd

We need to stop exporting jobs.
Lower domestic corporate income tax and raise tariffs.
That will put Americans back to work without welfare handouts.

What do you suggest be done with people who cannot find work?

If you haven't paid, you aren't entitled to a refund of monies not already disbursed to you via SS benefits. End of theft by the government.

Yea.......what about the disabled? People who CAN'T work!

Bottom line of capitalism is at work. The Chinese factories are humming along at top speed making things for you to buy. You and I both voted for a president that is a one world trader. It is not the upper class that is paying the bill, it is the middle class that will pay the bill and many will sink into the lower class.

I wouldn't knock it too badly - truck drivers get a good of money. I have relatives in trucking who've done pretty well for themselves.

Same as above - a nursing degree is a good as gold in most places.

Move to where the jobs are. As the great philospher Sam Kinison once said, (screamed)"We have deserts, we JUST DON'T LIVE IN THEM!".

Hey look at this from the GOP Wall Streeter's bright side. 'Free traders' will point out that NAFTA is really working because there are fewer people on the unemployed rolls.

You only make about $30grand a year if you aren't an owner operator. At least that's what I hear

Move to where the jobs are.

That's easier said then done! Selling a house in a remote area is not easy. Thank God we don't have to worry about this.

But where are the people supposed to MOVE? Who's HIRING? McDonalds in NEW JERSEY???? Everyone is laying off......so where can the people GO?

Yep, Davis has proposed this on a Statewide level I believe, in the midst of their huge budget shortfall. Which is fine with me, maybe his failure will teach some people a lesson.

Yes. And I think it leads to inflation. I just don't see how handing everyone $20.00 an hour would do anything but diminish what $20.00 an hour is worth in real terms.

Oh yes. There is no lockbox and many people have to be robbed to pay one employee today, who himself was also robbed yesterday in the same manner.

I keep thinking of all the nasty, condescending remarks people in this forum have made about unemployed people and about the truly homeless people (not the bums).

(sarcasm) Judy, Judy, Judy - don't you know - these people just need to start their own business.

Where do you get the information that the Republicans don't buy votes?

Truck driving and security guard jobs seem to domineer what there is of it.

And thanks to NAFTA, truck driving is in serious danger.
