Vote.com ^ | 23/12/2002 | Vote.com

Pro:

Rep. George Nethercutt (R-WA) was disgusted by Murray's words. "It borders on negligence. It borders on misinformation. It borders on a lack of sensitivity of the state of the world that surprises me of a United States senator," he told the Seattle Times.

Con:

Murray explained her comments: "While we continue to search every corner of the globe to destroy Osama bin Laden... should we also consider the longer-term issue of what else can be done to improve relations with all nations including the Arab world?"

Vote.com will send your vote to Senator Patty Murray

Welcome to the forum. I live in Woodinville in Washington State, which is across Lake Washinton from Seattle. I remember very well, when Patty Murray ran for the senate, her handle was "mom in tennis shoes", even the liberal talk show hosts called her a physical and mental midget. The Cascade Mountains divide our state and the eastern portion is conservative. I hope this can galvanize enough conservatives in eastern and western Washington to defeat this minion of democratic evil in 2004. No, she will not appologize, she believes her thought provoking question, will provoke dialog among the world community to examine the distribution of wealth and lead to world peace.

Hi, Doc. Good to see you here.

Apparently Patty would have praised Hitler for his superior autobahns. Further, she would have the USA build Al Qaeda's infrastructure, so that they could thank us just before slitting our throats.

An apology isn't enough. Unlike Lott, this senator is positively dangerous. She's got to go.

So, in all the time you've been in the Middle East, have you heard of Osama Yo Mama even funding any public works projects (muss less building them)?

TSR,

Oddly enough, yes! However, that wasn't really Osatan bin Lummox - the bin Laden family is a large construction concern in Saudi Arabia. UBL was trained in architecture and construction (if I remember rightly), and he was involved in the family business before he went nutz. But UBL himself, as far as I'm aware, was never directly involved in any public works or charitable projects. Hope that answers your question. Many thanks.

Fastdraw,

Good to see you too. Did you get my "open letter" via hotmail? She should be thrown out of the senate, and then tried for treason, in my opinion. Many thanks.

Apologize? Try resign. Anyhow, voted.

Another poll at this link. Think many FReepers have been there already. Asks if Patty Murray should resign.

Poll Link Here

Definately need to keep the pressure on Murray for at least an apology. She is getting off very light. Issued a non-apology apology. Why should she do more - the media barely mentioned her comments. Must be nice to get a pass on everything by CBSNBCABCCNNMSNBC if you are a Demorat.

I want the record kept true and apology from her will only muddy up the water, and we should not demand her to tell an out right lie i.e. apologize.

Let her words stand alone. Time to change the burned out bulbs. "It is time for them to go".

I think your point is a good one; it would just be empty words like Lott, anything X-42 said, Bush and "Islam in peace" and "happy Kwanzaa".

I'd much rather have her out there twisting in the wind with all her fellow Senators being asked on Sunday talk shows what the heck.

My (few, granted) experiences with pols is that they really aren't very smart. Oh, they know weasel words okay, but any sort of substantial conversation with them bears out that they're pretty good at lying but really aren't very bright. They have staffs that write their speeches, do research and tell them how to vote but mostly they're just, well, below average.

Sadly this applies to both sides. I had an extended conversation with a (R) from my home state and I would have had a more intellegent conversation talking to a fence post.

I hope she doesn't. I hope the Dems keep adhereing to their hypocrisy and double standards. Makes it that much easier to craft attack ads against them come the next election.

From today's Letters to the Editor section of The Washington Times:

The ignorance of Mrs. Murray
I have lived and worked in more than 50 countries with various foreign affairs agencies over the course of my career. So I was especially appalled by the comments of Sen. Patty Murray, Washington Democrat, regarding Osama bin Laden ("Murray hit for bin Laden remark," Nation, Saturday). Her statements were a slap in the face to countless Peace Corps volunteers,U.S.embassy employees and specialists within the U.S. Agency for International Development who have dedicated their lives to a cause President Kennedycalled "the long twilight struggle for freedom."
For her to say bin Laden has "been out in these countries for decades, building schools, building roads, building infrastructure, building day care facilities, building health care facilities. ... We haven't done that," is pure tripe.Bin Laden has done nothing compared to what the United States has in providing famine relief, eradicating disease and pestilence, building schools and providing clean drinking water to millions of people around the world. In so doing, industries within cities such Seattle and Vancouver, which are in Mrs. Murray's home state, have benefited directly from the resulting foreign-aid project contracts. As a result, many of her constituents have earned a good living whilemy colleagues and I labored unseen and unacknowledged far from home.
In her rush to blame America first, Mrs. Murray has forgotten the high price Americans have paid during this long twilight struggle. As I write this, I am fighting back tears recallingthe friends and colleagues I've lost over the years to senseless actsof terrorism while they tried helping others. How could she be so ungrateful and insensitive? How could she be so ignorant? I would urge her and the high school studentssheaddressed to visit the State Department building in Washington. Within the diplomatic entrance, they will find a granite wall inscribed with the names of those who died in the service of their country and of humanity itself. May Mrs. Murray never disregard their sacrifice again.

HARRY G. JACOBSON
Fredericksburg, Va.

Kind of knocks the stuffing out of your "reasoning," now doesn't it.

it might be easier to ignore the state of affairs in the world today, but it doesn't change them.

America does alot of good in the world, I am not saying otherwise, however if anyone thinks that these masses of people support bin laden 'cause they think he has a cool beard they have another thing comming

Does Bin Ladens work have a more direct impact on the lives of it's recipiants than those of the US, yeah they probably do.

Those helped by the US, probably think very highly of the US, those helped by Bin Laden will believe whatever Bin Laden tells them to.

It's a battle for the hearts and minds of these people, we have to make them like us more than Bin Laden, and when Bin Laden is building them hospitals and 'schools' (and I use that term very liberally) it will be awfully difficult to convince them Bin Laden is anything other than a great guy.

They can't imagine this great guy who builds schools, and hospitals and whatever else would want to hurt anyone
