NOW President Says Potential Lott Replacement No Improvement

December 20, 2002

"Trent Lott made the right decision to step down as Senate Majority Leader," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Kim Gandy. "But if he thinks that stepping down will save his party more embarrassment, he couldn't be more wrong—especially if his successor is Bill Frist." Sen. Frist (R-Tenn.) is currently the front-runner to replace Lott and has garnered widespread support from conservatives who have always considered Lott too moderate.

"Few senators have a worse voting record on civil rights than Trent Lott—but Bill Frist is one of them," Gandy noted. "Frist has voted against sex education, international family planning, emergency contraception (the morning-after pill), affirmative action, hate crimes legislation and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. This is the man who is supposed to save face for the GOP in the Senate? Think again."

"The Republican Party is making a huge mistake if they are assuming that reluctant apologies and a different face will camouflage their record of undermining civil rights," Gandy said.

"Karl Rove, credited by insiders with engineering the exchange of Lott for Frist, will be the de facto Senate leader—and the idea of the U.S. Senate being run from the White House ought to give every Senator pause," Gandy said.

What a strange statement. WAS (Women Acting Stupid, used to be known as NOW) is so oblivious to what normal people think that this bimbo doesn't realize what a major endorsement of support she has just given Dr. Frist.

Hey Gandy, "Put some ice on it!"

I've seen the left do some interesting things before. If they like someone, they sometimes damn them right out of the shoot, to induce the right to support the person even more. That may not be the case here.

If the reports of these votes are accurate, Frist may be a good guy. I've not followed him closely. Someone the other day stated his was pro-choice, which is why my first thought listed above came to mind. NOW may think he's a lot more favorable to their cause then they are letting on.

Give it time and if the thread stays active there will be a few wingers to come online and tell you that Frist is a baby killer, owns stock/got wealthy from abortion providers, supports stem research, etc. They just haven't arrived with their dribble......

His votes seem to follow the pro-life prosition.

Lott's replacement is an improvement for us Republicans. So if NOW hates Frist, I am a happy freeper.

Hitlery said nearly the same thing - must be the current dim talking points.

The louder NOW condemns someone the more I'm inclined to support that someone.

They've already worn out their race card, and they don't know what to try next...
Damn, I feel so sorry for them.

What a tired old line they're still using.

Thanks for that link. It appears that Frist's pro-life credentials are solid. If he starts selling out his position in order to curry favor with the RATS, I for one will raise holy hell.
