Many GOP moderates, also saw an opening and pounced on the opportunity to get rid of someone they didn't like at all, a conservative named Trent Lott.

Actually, the biggest drive to get rid of Lott within the GOP came from the conservative wing, not the moderates. In the beginning, you had Specter, Warner, etc. all out there defending Lott. Nickles was the first to call for him to step down, if you recall.

First let it be said that I'm a conservative Republican. Now: I'm disappointed that Kristol supported McCain - I thought he was a lot smarter than that.

W/that understanding, I take The Weekly Standard along with the National Review. I read both. I enjoy reading the WS and I plod through NR. WS hasn't let me down on the conservative end of things and the writing is top notch. NR hasn't let me down either, except that they haven't found an adequate replacement for Flo King on the back page. They also tend to be more pedantic. Some folks like that - I'm not one of them.

I enjoy Kristol and reserve the right to think for myself, which you no doubt do as well. We can agree to disagree on this one.

I think the RATS are going to be sorry they did this. It showed integrity to have the Republicans stand up to even the perception of being racists.

Did you catch Hillary earlier today? Her hair looked like she had been caught in a rainstorm. She is horrible. How can anyone listen to her speak and look at her hideous face without turning to stone?

I wasn't talking about actual GOP insiders. The vast majority of Republican Congressmen where silent on the Lott issue. I was talking more about those who try to shape and influence opinions, the political pundits. And of course, our very own community of FReepers.

After this entire Lott fiasco, I'm questioning the conservative credentials of everyone, from inside the party, to general rank and file members. People who I considered conservative before the Lott issue broke, are looking more like part of the adversarial faction, which includes RINO`s, neocons and in many cases, GOP moderates.

GOP unity is paramount to the future success of the Bush agenda. This division within the GOP, doesn't help. The real enemy is suppose to be the liberal Democrats and the liberal establishment, in general. As the party of Lincoln and Reagan, we shouldn't be crucifying our own.

I am speechless. I just saw Hillary saying that all republicans are racists. I am beyond anger. I am over the top with steam coming out of my ears. That woman has gall.
