LONDON, England -- A study of almost 50 years of Playboy centrefolds has revealed that the characteristic differences between men and women are becoming less pronounced.
Researchers at universities in Canada and Austria compared height, weight, bust, waist and hip measurements of 577 models from issues of the adult magazine dating from 1953 to 2001 and found they had become less shapely and more androgynous.

Amazing what a mortician can do.
</tacky joke off>
C'mon, when it comes to fashion, if people did not like it, any fashion designer would fall flat on his face.
The reasons are deeper: as has been noted many times, we withness feminization of our culture, and this may be just one manifestation. Has nothing to do with gays. Your argument is at the same level as "Jews of Hollywood corrupt our children." Both are conspiracy theories, and both are wrong.
According to this, average measurements have remained almost constant, with below-average weight.
Yes and if people didn't like the democrats, they wouldn't elect them
A great notion exiosts that TV is watched by only those that approve of the content, because they simply don't change the channel. Well Even if you do change the channel, it is likely to be the same trash. Want a real test on what people prefer?
How about this? DVD's released with foul language could easily be modified to let people filter out the vulgarity, but they don't. I contend that they know people would opt for the less filthy version, so they don't offer the choice. Airlines already have specially edited versions for inflight showings, but they(media elites) refuse to sell that version to the public, wonder why? Oh I know they must stay true to the artist's intent.
Well I grew up on John Wayne movies and the Duke managed to get his story across with out any vulgarity, and you always knew who the bad guys were.
Fashion is promoted just like any other product. Put Whitney Houston in a sack and it would likely become popular, if it were revealing enough.
Sorry, but your thought is too sophisticated for the circumstances. The reason is actually very simple: the lack of demand.
You make a mistake of all trusting and good-hearted people: you refuse to believe that your neighbors, friends, and members of your family actually prefer it that way.
Shortly before Sep 11, 2001 numerous focus groups indicated pressure from the viewers for more sex and "action" (violence). Forty-year-old women from Midwast were saying, "Why don't they put more spice into the network programs? I do not want to switch to cable to see things as they actually are. Keep it more interesting." The industry was actually caught by surprise and scrambled to rewrite the shows. Sep 11 put a stop to that.
Just like with drugs, it is not "evil Columbians" that conspire to destroy America: it is your friends and mine that demand drugs. It is very disappointing, almost defeating for people like you and I that would like to believe in the best of human nature --- but it is the truth. That is probably how good-natured Germans felt in 1930s, watching their culture destroyed. The perpetrators there were also few, but it was the whole nation that liked, or at least did not mind, them.
You actually came close to pointing out the real reason:
Well I grew up on John Wayne movies and the Duke managed to get his story across with out any vulgarity, and you always knew who the bad guys were.
How true. Guess why it was not otherwise? Because then, if it were, people would (i) leave the theatre, (ii) write to their local newspapers, (iii) make the most influential of them contact the film distributors --- and there would be an end of that.
When was the last time you saw anyone leave the theatre when violence of the screen became grotesque? When was the last time that you heard someone reprimand a teenager for swearing in public? Just listen how many time the words are bleeped out when people speak to reporters, when no anger is involved. Those are your real tests. Just as in Germany of 1930, a third of our population really, really likes sex on the screen devoid of affection and violence devoid of a moral cause, and the rest of the population does not mind.
Don't blame Hollywood.
