I just can't believe the morons in Washington who would elect such an imbecile and the incompetent Republican Party that can't recruit a candidate who might win.

Washington State may have seen its last Republican statewide office holder for some time. When I lived in Portland from '75-'82, both Oregon and Washington were swing states. At the time, Oregon was slightly Republican, and Washington was slightly Democrat -- blue-collar Democrat, not Sandinista Democrat. By the time I returned to live in Washington State from '98-'02, Democrats held the upper hand in both Washington and Oregon, thanks to heavy leftist in-migration from California and the East and the leftist-inspired local demise of blue collar industries -- defense, aircraft assembly, aluminium manufacturing, forest products, mining, and fishing. Seattle and Portland are now politically to the left of Boston and I would argue, San Francisco. Understand how Berkeley, Calif. perceives the world and you begin to understand politicians like Murray.

If they recapture national office, it's tantamount to ordering up a nuclear detonation in your home town.

We DID have a republican candidate that could have beat this power-mad little "mom in tennis shoes," and a good one, too, but the RNC wouldn't support them. They preferred the two-faced democRAT instead, I guess.

On behalf of the rational people in the state of Washington, I apologize.

It is very, very difficult for a conservative to be elected here. Even when the party puts up credible candidates, it is very hard. Gorton was as close as we ever really got. How close is that?

In Everett, we elected a representative from the local Native American reservation. He was an active lobbyist in Olympia, a fact he did his level best to downplay during the election.

The R candidate, a retired airline pilot, had the temerity to suggest that it is possible that he won't effectively represent everyone in the district, given the fact that he'd been pretty staunch in his lobbying efforts on behalf of the tribe.

Within a week, the governor came out in the news decrying Hoglund(R) a racist.

That's all it took.

Larsen(D-Everett) has voted nearly lockstep with McDermott, and Murray - what can I say?

Numerous state initiatives have been passed by huge margins calling for cuts in car tabs, changes in the way taxes can be passed, and mandates in the way transportation funding is spent. Most of them have been challenged in court and others that haven't, the state refuses to implement, regardless of the initiative's passing.

Boeing isn't based in Chicago now for nothing. Washington has the highest unemployment in the nation right now. We also have the most expensive labor in the world.

I went to school on the East Coast, and I have lots of friends in MA, and I'll tell you this - with the exception of Hawaii, Washington State makes Mass look like Texas with respect to conservatism.

Most people in the state live in King and Snohomish counties. Many are either union (Boeing), grew up as D's, or are the guilty rich (D's). The rest of the state votes conservative. It's like Berkeley being able to dictate the political agenda for the entire state of California.
