Pakistan Warehouse Explosion Kills Four

By Afzal Nadeem
Associated Press Writer

KARACHI, Pakistan –– A chemical storage warehouse exploded in this southern port city Thursday, killing four people including a fugitive wanted in connection with terrorist acts against Americans.

Police said the warehouse was a bomb-making factory.

The body of Asif Ramzi, wanted in the killing of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl and the June bombing of the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, was found in the warehouse ruins, Deputy Inspector of Police Fiaz Leghari told reporters.

The powerful explosion ripped through the chemical storage warehouse in the eastern Korangi neighborhood of Karachi, a teeming and violent city of 14 million people. The identities of the three others killed was not known.

Sure, it's possible. But you know AQ better than most. They're very compartmented, to avoid or at least minimize being compromised if captured. I found at least one source listing linking this terrorist directly with Al Qaeda, and others describing more of a "close working relationship." I'd be surprised if they whacked him. I think it's much more likely these cowards blew themselves up or had a little help from us and/or the Pakistanis.

Cliches? LOL. That's pretty funny from someone throwing around accusations/innuendo. Gee, do you have your own newsletter?

And since a cliche is described as a trite phrase or expression, I'm not sure how the word "agenda" fits into that category. But I'll bet you'll tell me!

Because it's the easiest cheap shot to throw at someone.

Accuse them of having an agenda.

Of coourse i have an agenda. So Astute of you to figure it out. NOT. When did that lightbulb go off over your head ( see, another cliche).

Cheap shots obviously are something you're good at.

You'll just accept this whole story at face value when the only one identified happens to be a Pearl killer.

"I'm sure a forensic DNA analysis was done if possible; otherwise, a passport or some docs offer incontrovertible evidence. Right."

...Or enough body parts were intact to make identification possible

I like UPI's take better than the Post....

>>In another incident Thursday, four people, including an alleged terrorist, were killed in an explosion in the southern port city of Karachi. Police recovered rocket launchers from the house the alleged militant, Asif Ramzi, was hiding. Police said they did not know what caused the blast. Ramzi had a $3,000 reward for his arrest.

"But you know AQ better than most. They're very compartmented, to avoid or at least minimize being compromised if captured."

True, but the cell structure exists primarily between the operational (active terrorist) cells, the support cells, and the leadership. If this jabroni was involved in the group's middle-management (especially in Pakistan, where al-Qaeda operates quite freely), he may have known names and bank account numbers that al-Qaeda would not have wanted exposed, especially if some of that information would directly tie them to the Pakistani religious parties who support the Kashmiri jihad.

"I think it's much more likely these cowards blew themselves up or had a little help from us and/or the Pakistanis."

This is another distinct possibility. One of the reasons why Pakistan has refused to extradict Omar Sheikh to the US for the murder of Daniel Pearl is that they're scared to death that he's going to spill the beans in open court testimony about the ISI's relationship with the Kashmiri jihad. An interesting scenario might be that this was the ISI covering their tracks operating independently of the Pakistani government.

That's interesting. Why don't you go back and show me where I accepted the story at face value? You can't. But it makes complete sense to me that a higher-level terrorist would be more easily identifiable than unknowns. Golly gee, that was a tough one to figure out.

As far as your other little comments, shall I get you a tissue, Precious? You seem awfully angry. I do hope things get better for you, so perhaps some of the cynicism can die down.

Cheap shots obviously are something you're good at.

No. Sarcasm I'm guilty of, for certain. The first cheap shot I see was yours. And you couldn't even restrict it to me - you had to direct it to all Americans. Again with the anger.

The ISI scenario seems more plausible to me than the AQ one, although I still think it was a hit or accident.

There's an ongoing Pakistani/Fed agencies sweep going on in Pakistan right now. Also today, 9 family members suspected of having ties to al Qaeda were arrested on one such operation. Pakistan says a gunfight was involved, but didn't report injuries, so the truth of that detail isn't confirmable.

Then again, Pakistan also says they don't know what caused the explosion of the bomb making factory...oh...and rocket launchers were found in the house where Ramzi had been holing up. Might be a coincidence...

I imagine we're only getting a very few very select details of events. For good reasons...like one or more of those who hadn't been identified weren't quite as dead as reported...stuff like that.

After re-reading the story twice, I'm more inclined to agree with you on this one.

"I like UPI's take better than the Post...."

Me to. The Compost is usually inaccurate, biased, and frequently badly written.

I love the deal about how police don't know what caused the blast in the bomb making factory...maybe somebody fired a couple of Ramzi's rockets into it.

The Paks never miss an opportunity to try to suck up to Americans thru the press... they utilize it very shrewdly.

Oh, like people on FR don't refer to Americans as sheeple.

What's the matter, it's not kosher for me to say so.

I'm sorry i transgressed your rules.

Does any one know whose house-guest Shiek Omar is now? I guess he's too high up to have these kind of unfortunate accidents.

Yes i am angry still 16 months after 9/11. WHY AREN"T YOU?

NO, the Anger won't fade. Neither will the cynicism.

When official US policy is to be nice to the two countries most responsible for attacking America, it won't.

What do you suggest? Anger and cynicism mgmt classes?

He's in prison, isn't he? Where it would be more difficult (but not impossible) for the Mossad to get him.
