Well then, if they are legal, why not move here to reclaim their benefits? If the benefits are so important, why not move back? Two reasons. Either they were not really legal, or this is a scam to send an ADDITIONAL BILLION DOLLARS a year to Mexico.

Deserves to be in bold:

Social Security is on schedule to go bankrupt in the year 2030, unless radical changes are made to the program. 2030 also happens to be the year I turn 65, so everyone my age and younger will have literally paid into the system our entire lives, and will not see one penny.

1968 checking in . . .

"ALERT, ALERT, ALERT!!! They Mexican goverment wants OUR social security money to prop up their program!!!"

HA!!
Hell's bells our dollars -- in many forms -- have been finding their way to places like Puerto Rico for decades, now.

Just one of many facets, y'know.

...of the ol' redistribution of wealth scheme.

If I see real evidece that GWB is pushing this agenda I will not support him for President in 2004! We need to lock down our borders, not throw the gates wide open to Mexico !!!! This program will Bankrupt our Social Security System.

Time to fish or cut bait........ !

***We need to find another Conservative candidate who is serious about protecting the border. ***

And then comes the tough part. Getting that candidate ELECTED. People who choose their own personal virtuosity over electability get exactly what they deserve...personal satisfaction and an illogical excuse to bitch for the next four years. Thems the facts.

You get real, name one thing he has been conservative on. Oh, wait, yeah, I remember, denying vets the ability to collect both disability and retirement benefits. What was I thinking?

Oh maybe that shouldn't count as a good thing, especially when the Farm Bill threw the care and feeding of immigrants back on the backs of tax payers instead of their sponsers, gutting the Welfare Reform Act just signed by Clinton. Compassionate Conservatism: Compassion extended to everyone but Americans, especially vets.

How do you feel about the new agreement to transfer Social Security money to Mexico, bet you like that don't you. The "new republicans" usually have not met a liberal program they don't just love.

Of course, given the new GOP there is very little room for conservatives in it, eventually, all conservatives will leave the GOP, the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned.

something of a consolation prize to make up for Bush's failure to pursue promised immigration reforms, according to Latino lobbyists close to the Fox administration

What does THIS mean? Are these American "Latino lobbyists"?

How is this not treason?

" The GOP aide said Mexican officials would also like benefits to be adjusted upward for a legal Mexican worker who worked in the United States for some time illegally and paid into the Social Security system using a false Social Security number. "

Oops. Looks like the truth leaked out in the very last paragraph. That's inconvenient.

Here's another reason why some didn't claim their money. Also, tucked away in that ever so troubling last paragraph.

" Gabriela Lemus, director of policy and legislation for the League of United Latin American Citizens, said as much as $21 billion in Social Security payments have not been tracked to potential beneficiaries, most likely because they were paid under a false Social Security number. "

This will have a net effect of moving those operating outside of the system into the system.

The costs will be more than offset by the benefits to the US as well as helping Mexico develop a comprehensive tax base list.

Get Even with them????

My suggestion is to send this to the AARP and make sure it gets to all seniors in this country. Can you imagine how many votes he will lose in just seniors alone?

Bush is a loser on this Mexican issue. I think I will keep a copy of this and show it to every senior citizen I know.

Why are we responsible for developing Mexico's "tax base list", whatever the hell that is?

so what else is new? George Bush, just like his father, is completely insensitive to the american interest.

The republicans, through H1B, already take about 8 billion a year from the social security program and send it out to foreign governments to compensate them for sending indentured servants to america to lower wages in america. For every Indian that comes to US in h1b, the Indian government gets on average $45,000 over a 6 year period. They simply take all the guy's payroll taxes and give it to the home country. One million h1b's in the US now. It is a drain on the social security program. But according to GW we're racists if we talk about it.

I say dump GW.

But GW in his assinine accusations of racism towards all opponents of h1b is a fool. I don't have anything against indians or russians who take advantage of h1b. NRI's are OK, I just don't think it should be an endless stream into the US for the sake of lowering our wages. I'd like to elect one of the h1b's president even, instead of the republican jack-asses.
