[history]
Pushed by the Mexican government, the Bush administration is working on a Social Security accord that would put tens of thousands of Mexicans onto the Social Security roster and send hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits south of the border.
White House and Mexican government officials say discussions on an agreement to align the Social Security systems of the two countries are informal and preliminary. But excerpts from an internal Social Security Administration memo obtained this month say the agreement "is expected to move forward at an accelerated pace," with the support of both governments, and could be in force by next October.

They simply walk into the system and claim "depression, drug addictions, etc. and bingo...instant checks. Your story is horrible but I'm sure it's happening to many Americans. Immigrants are also bringing in all kinds of elderly relatives, they find a less well paid relative to "sponsor" them because a sponsor only needs to be 125% over federal poverty levels and then their income gets considered with the new immigrant who can have zero income when applying for SSI. I know of physicians who are making big money who have their elderly parents on SSI and Medicaid but they made sure a lower wage relative brought them in at least on paper. I also know of many younger immigrants who've managed to get on SSI ---they don't appear to be drug addicts or alcoholic and I think they used "depression" for the reason.

This so called "7 year rule" only applies to disability, not retirement benefits. That means at age 67 when I can draw mine, I will have to survive disabled for the next 12 years....somehow. Many baby boomers have saved some money and then head for the hills to early retire. If something happens to their health, they will have no disability through SS. There's going to be some very shocked people. I know I was.

Well, it's just a good thing that the Lord is more dependable than the SS Administration. Luckily, I worked my butt off when I was young...most of the time I shouldn't have been because of my health....and I have lots of stuff to sell to survive the next 12 years until my SS retirement kicks in...like I believe there will be anything left by then!

You have it pegged, Fitz. In Oregon we have a state "disability service". They supposedly "help" you get your disability. They will not even consider the physical findings, but instead insist on pushing the "depression" angle. These are "private" providers, screeners, if you will, and get paid by the heads they push through the system. Depression is all they will consider because it gets through now, without all the hassle. Being the stubborn
"!@#@" I am, I threw a fit, told them I was going to get the disability based on fact not their quota system and was told I might have an "anger" problem. I told them I had an "idiot" problem. I won't accept SSI, which is what the illegals get and the people who have not paid into the system.

Sickening ---but I bet if all the immigrants had to show up in person to receive their benefits, there wouldn't be nearly as many showing up as there are receiving them. They caught a woman here from Mexico shoplifting, she had 4 different Identifications on her and they found out she was using all four to receive government benefits. She was given amnesty in the 80s ---I guess all four of her identities got in on it --- she's back in Mexico now because she skipped bail. I'm sure she'll be back soon enough.

This so called "7 year rule" only applies to disability, not retirement benefits. I didn't realize that. Just don't know much about disability - shoot I don't know much about SS. I just know that in the last 3 years they have been sending us a 'projected' benefits letter and in the last 3 years the 'projected' amount has dropped $400 a month!! - and our income or input has not dropped. Don't know why. My husband's that is. I did all my working when SS was not a big deal.

"THEY ARE ILLEGALS!! THEY DON'T DESERVE ANY BENEFITS EXCEPT A RIDE HOME!"
In my opinion they shouldn't even get that for free. Send the bill to Fox! I'm tired of the moochers thinking they should have more rights than American citizens!

More evidence of the dangerous love affair Bush is having with Mexico. This stuff is starting to really cut into our national sovereignty. Just think that a few years ago, this type of proposal was unthinkable. Now something like this is being seriously considered. How far do Americans have to be pushed before they finally react against all these trends?
Maybe this can be turned to our advantage, as conservatives. Be sure to tell your friends about this article from the WP. Print it out, circulate it around. It's shocking. Social Security is the "third rail" of politics, after all. Maybe it will spark some true understanding of our situation and some real outrage that will lead to true change.

We've just debated over the past six years or so that Social Security was going bankrupt and how to fix it, and now we're going to add more to the rolls? You must understand we are moving into Banana Republic third world status..it is the New World Order agenda. We will soon get Social Security in Pesos.
We elected it...this has ALWAYS been the REAL agenda

"This strikes me as a really bad idea."
I admire your restraint. This idea makes me want to kick and scream and Freep and create graphs like Ross Perot on how horrible this idea is. But then, I'm an Aries.

Get a lawyer....there are two seperate programs..Social Security Disability and Social Security Insurance...the insurance is to cover those that have no income I believe
---Social Security Disability Insurance pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you are "insured" meaning that you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.
---Supplemental Security Income pays benefits based on financial need.
When you apply for either program, we will collect medical and other information from you and make a decision about whether or not you meet Social Security's definition of disability.
Use the Benefits Eligibility Screening Tool to find out which programs may be able to pay you benefits.
http://www.ssa.gov/disability/
The lawyers can not charge you unless they win your claim..get a Social Security lawyer..if you had done that originally he would have told you about the automatic turn down
Merry Christmas

According to the article,Legal aliens who paid into the Social Security system when they were here illegally, will get credit for their Social Security conributions even though they used false or stolen I.D. before aquiring legal residency.
The alien will not be punished for commiting a serious crime, but in fact will be rewarded!
Is that what you want?
To: BallandPowder
I posted that the Mexicans would want the money they've paid into Social Security a LONG time ago. But, no one remembers.
