Inasmuch as Trent Lott was in kindergarten in 1948, he did not vote for Thurmond. He did not run on a "similar" platform to the Dixiecrats. He did not write a jacket-flap endorsement calling a segregationist an "American Dreamer."

Republicans should ask Lott to step down as leader, but only for all the nice things he's said about Teddy Kennedy.

so stop slamming Lott instead back him 100%

You're talking to Ann Coulter, right?

From the article:

Statisticians believe Trent Lott is now on track to break Bill Clinton's single-season record for public apologies. During his recent B.E.T. appearance, Lott said he supported affirmative action, regretted voting against the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and that he'd give "The Bernie Mac Show" another try.

SNIP

Lott is a fine fellow; he just has some sort of liberal-Tourette's syndrome that makes him spout Democrat ideas at random. A few years ago, Lott practically wanted to give the adulterous Air Force pilot Kelly Flinn a silver star for her service. Remember that?

Up until two weeks ago, conservatives were clamoring for Lott's removal precisely because of his annoying habit of saying dumb things. (Showing their inferior intellect, liberals have only recently figured that out.) Republicans should ask Lott to step down as leader, but only for all the nice things he's said about Teddy Kennedy.

"In 1948, when I was a democrat, I supported those goals, then I became a republcan and changed those views."

Southern Democrats from Reconstruction to the 1970s were conservative, rather than liberal. The South was a one party region, with the Democratic Party as the dominant party. The recent dominance of the Republican Party in the South began when a growing number of Southern Democrats reconciled their political beliefs with their party affiliation by switching to the Republican Party.

The idea that Lott took the occasion of an old timer's birthday to introduce a new policy initiative to bring back segregation – a Democrat policy – is ludicrous.

she does not say he should go.

She isn't saying he should stay, either.

Clearly she is of the mind that the statement that set this in motion should not be the reason if he ends up losing his leadership position, but his handling in the aftermath.

She goes on to list democrats getting away with supporting ideals that are at odds with American ideals with no censure from the media BUT she also points out that Lott has a penchant for catering to the dems, i.e. the Kelly Flinn situation. She points out that some republicans wanted him out for these kowtowing ways and that if he goes that should be the reason.

She is exactly right.

Are you capable of basic reading comprehension?

Up until two weeks ago, conservatives were clamoring for Lott's removal precisely because of his annoying habit of saying dumb things. (Showing their inferior intellect, liberals have only recently figured that out.)

Considering the fact that she clearly says that a) Conservatives 'got it' long ago, and b) liberals, with their inferior intellects only just now 'got it', and c) You have yet to get it. What does that say about your intellect?

What part of this next part did you fail to get, or are you willfully blind?:

Republicans should ask Lott to step down as leader, but only for all the nice things he's said about Teddy Kennedy. -Ann Coulter

When I heard Lott claim that his praise for Thurmond v.48 was over his military policy and anti-communisim, I really thought Lott would get doubly slammed for it. Anti-Communist? 1940s? Lord, you almost had to be a Communist to get a job in certain Washington stables back then.

I haven't heard a word. I guess segregation is worse than Communism is good.

Only a Democrat could think that way.

As he's now completely compromised his ability even to do job 2, he should step down as Majority Leader, and give someone with more energy and conviction the chance to get in there and lead.

Yes, Lott should step down, but not over this debacle, it would only give the Dems more fodder.

"In 1948, when I was a democrat, I supported those goals, then I became a republcan and changed those views."

Only one problem with that...Lott was born in 1941...he was only 7 years old in 1948!

As long as he steps down poste haste, I don't care what reason you attach to it. It's time for new Leadership.
