Last-Ditch Attempt to Save Leadership Job
Embattled Senator Trent Lott (R-Miss.) stood in front of the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. today with a "KICK ME" sign attached to his trousers and invited passers-by to take their turns kicking him in the ass.
Senator Lott's wearing of the "KICK ME" sign represents a significant upping of the ante in his ongoing campaign to show contrition for the unfortunate remarks he made at Senator Strom Thurmond's recent one hundredth birthday party.
By inviting members of the public to kick his ass, Senator Lott may be setting an historic precedent in American political life, says historian David McAllister of the University of Minnesota.
"When Richard Nixon lost the California gubernatorial race in 1962, he told the press that they wouldn't have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore," Mr. McAllister says. "But that's a far cry from standing in front of the Capitol and asking people to kick your ass – just the opposite, in fact."
After several passers-by took Senator Lott up on his offer and did, in fact, kick his ass, he drove to the studios of the Food Network, the only cable television outlet where he had yet to make a humiliating apology.
Senator Lott appeared on the popular program "Follow That Food" and apologized profusely for his remarks throughout the broadcast.
At the conclusion of the program, Senator Lott finished preparing a garlic-staked leg of lamb with a salad of mixed greens, after which he asked host and celebrity chef Gordon Elliot to kick his ass.
Was this before or after he endorsed the Emancipation Proclamation, and more importantly, did he request a live audience of Rainbow Push members during the food program and invite them to throw fruits and vegetables at him?? And invite THEM to take turns kicking his a$$?
After all, it's the very LEAST he can do, and if he DIDN'T do it...well that's just racist.
