Tex! We usually agree on most if not all issues, But IMHO Not only did Lott bring this on himself, but he lumped all of us together with his statements on BET. I'm completely baffled why he would act like he did on BET, Did you watch it?

As the next Governor of California (one can hope) would say..."Alllll beebakkkk"!!!
To: Dave S
The point was that Lott was trying to use his one hire of a black to work in his mail room as proof that he was in favor of affirmatative action."A lot of my friends are black."

No one will call Carville on the carpet because they are all afraid of him. He is nuts but he knows how to get people elected who don't mind using dirt.

I am not ready to throw a man to the wolves because someone paints him as a racist. That isn't right and I won't be a part of it. Ok, ready? This isn't all about the SEX (racist comments). It's about perjury and obstruction of justice (practically all the bumbling around Lott has done since the birthday party).
Do ya get it now?

And the Lott dug it up *AGAIN*!!! It's increadible that two sentences for the man's 100th birthday party would dig up something, don't you think?

What's the matter doesn't it feel nice to be labeled something you aren't? MY POINT.

These people are actually surprised by this interview. What did they expect? Actually Texasforever, this interview did surprise me .. yes I realize he went on to save his butt and pull it out of the fire, but I never excepted him to sound like such a fool ..
I agree, he shouldn't resign over the Thurmond comment and yes I agree the left is just gearing up to go after the next Republican
But at the same time, this interview was really bad, that you have to admit

One day I hope that we wake up and figure out that we need to tell the race baiters to shut up and stay out of our faces. The people who believe the Republican Party is any worse at race issues than the Democratic Party aren't paying attention anyway And if Lott had dealt with this in THAT way, I'd at least have some respect for him. What did he do? He rolled over and wet himself in public. Just like a an abused, submissive dog.

He is nuts but he knows how to get people elected who don't mind using dirt. I agree he can dig up dirt, but lately his days of getting anyone elected aren't that good
And it is about time we stand up to Carville

I am saying this right up front, if Lott resigns or is pushed out over this issue, you could elect the most conservative senator in the senate and he will be so terrified of what happened to Lott he will never challenge a racial program that comes up for a vote. I don't care who you are, in public life there is skeleton in the closet that will be used against you. This is not a good thing that is happening here and within a week of the new majority leader's term FreeRepublic and the conservative press will be calling him/her a sell out. Lott is gone and the only question remains if he will stay in the senate but in the big picture it does not matter. Borking worked again and it will continue to work because we let it. I don't like Lott and it has been agony to defend a principle while the subject is without many principles himself but this is not a victory for us and we have not advanced the ball.

For the record.... I have never been happy with Trent Lott, But I wanted him to be replaced on our terms, not theirs, But it's too late for that now, and Trent Lott can look in the mirror when he wants to cast blame.
It was your "RINO" comment that brought on my response. So many of these narrow minded .02%rs around here whose knowledge of history is limited to this mornings breakfast are the ones who continually use that term for anyone who understands that every single piece of legislation that has ever been signed into law has been debated and compromised beyong belief. To me it's a sign of complete an utter ignorance.
Sorry for the rant :-)

See how it feels to be trashed when you KNOW that you are NOT what they think. As someone from the south I know only too well how it feels to be stereotyped. Much of it stems from ignorance and group-think. But hey we all do some stereotyping. It's just more exaggerated when it comes to the south. So what is your point that you wish to lecture me about?
To: ApesForEvolution
I would probably vote for him but I wouldn't campaign as hard or support him with my pocketbook after what I have been witnessing lately.

I think they are looking for a reason to be outraged. They don't get EXACTLY what they want they pitch a hissy fit. Hello, President Hillary.
Some think I am making a big deal about Carville. Maybe so, but I have seen WHO he CAN get elected. I know WHO he is working with now.

The minute this story hit the press I knew it was a big loser for us. Lott didn't help things at all and after tonight he has dug the hole deeper. This bullshit will pass and there will be a deeper division between the two parties and I believe that the majority of the people will see this for what it is. Trent Lott made a stupid comment and he handled the aftermath terribly.
But! I also believe that the majority of Americans are quite capable of seeing through this unjustified attack on Trent Lott and if the past two years have shown me anything at all, It's that we are damn sick and tired of this bullshit the democrats pull and the CBC is running out of excuses why the party they support has done nothing for them for the past 45 years besides keep them in poverty and voting democratic.
I like to look at the bright side of this issue..... The RATS have shown their ugly face once again

OK...you have a point! ;-)
Good night...and happy hunting..

Do you "get it now"? IT'S NOT ABOUT TRENT LOTT! It's about getting back control of POWER. I'm really sick of people falling for the RATS crap. If this is all it takes to *iss off people we didn't deserve to be in the Majority in the first place. They know how stupid we are to fall for such crap, so throw the man out. You will only be adding fuel to the flames. I'm to the point I could care less if Hillary Clinton becomes President if this is the kind of crap it takes to make people turn against someone. It's all so damn petty it's ridiculous.
I hope all of you who are so outraged by Trent Lott get that perfect person that you want so badly. It's amazing to me that there wasn't one word about him until this. Now he is more evil than Bill Clinton. Enjoy the Minority because that's where it's going to end up and I really don't care any longer.
It's not worth the trouble. I have learned too much about people I thought I knew from posting here for so many years. Boy, was I wrong. It seems like a few people like to keep things stirred up. If it's not one thing it's another. Constantly bitching about something. It's either their way or no way. Well, frankly I'm sick to death of it.
Like I said enjoy yourselves.

Now he is more evil than Bill Clinton. Enjoy the Minority because that's where it's going to end up and I really don't care any longer. I'm not looking for friggin perfection. I want someone who is going to stand up for himself and his party when it is attacked. If Lott had been a man on this from the beginning, then we all could have stood with him. But he whined and cried, "Oh I'm so sorry! Please don't hurt me mommy!"
I want someone who is going to stand in front of a camera and say, "Don't you DARE try to paint me as a racist!" But of course, that only works if you aren't a racist and I'm 100% absolutely sure that Trent Lott IS a racist coward. He's too afraid to tell the truth about himself and his beliefs. Does he think black people can't handle it? Too stupid to see truth?
What other explanation is there for his LIES about his voting record? What possible excuse can there be for implying that we are all, every one of us, racists? THAT is why no one came running to his defense. All his friends knew he'd wet himself at the earliest opportunity. Imagine defending Trent Lott! "No way! He's not a racist!" And then Lott himself admits it.
