You will have to get your answers about why they kept electing him in the past from those who supported him then, not from those of us who didn't.

kcvl, you are grasping at straws now mate. My comment was about Freepers in general. Things looked so nice and rosy after Nov. 5. Now we are back at each others throats.....

path that would take the GOP down with him

If Trent Lott is the only thing keeping the GOP together then it wasn't worth keeping together. I don't think anyone wants to start digging in another's closet in Washington. There is plenty of trash to go around.

To the dismay of some conservatives, the Bush administration plans to file a legal brief by an Aug. 10 deadline backing a Department of Transportation program designed to help black and other minority highway contractors, the sources say.

The case, arising from a challenge by a white contractor in Colorado, is the first big test for affirmative action in George W. Bush's presidency.

The White House's apparent reluctance to shut the door on race-conscious policies already is drawing fire from conservatives who expected Bush to reject measures they say discriminate against whites. Liberals say they are heartened by the move.

Is he? Hmmmmm...an intellectual, certainly. But a genius? He has a curious mind, not it isn't anything profound. He lacks discipline and has trouble simplifying things, which was his undoing, along with his enormous vanity.

By taking the GOP down, I was referencing what he would do to our majority if he was a cowardly traitor and resigned from the Senate. If you didn't realize that, fine...but if you do realize it, you are being disingenuous.

I don't drink anyone's kool-aid, my friend.

Fine. Then perhaps you could extend the courtesy to some of us who disagree with you, that we make up our own minds, too, and are not transfixed by the machinations of the likes of James Carville.

It was sad-sad-sad.

He should go quietly, the Monday before Christmas ... when everyone has other stuff on their minds.

And the Republicans had better meet with Amy Tuck real quick to find out who can run for the office about to be vacated.

Republicans had better step! Can't get caught unawares! Where's that Rove guy???

This country MUST continue the practice of rewarding excellence, otherwise, what's the use in being the best? The pay is the same!

I agree.

one or two percent of his staff was black

Why do you care if you are against AA? It shouldn't matter what percent is on his staff if they were hired for their ability to do the job.

"Lott, promised in the interview...To steer away from the Citizens white supremicists group he nodded his head yes to being a part of (he did not deny it)"

I didn't see it...only heard parts of it, so I didn't know about any head nodding. Yes, it DOES seem as though if we don't defend Lott...or if we don't defend him "strongly enough"...which some posters have combined with not being "conservative enough" that we're racists or Dems or the Dems' useful idiots. As if WE have some control over LOTT'S actions!! The Republican party isn't responsible for Lott, any more them the Republican party is racist, homophobic, sexist...and all those other keywords. I forget the rest of the epithets used against all conservatives by the left for almost 40 years. My brain is getting fried.

"But, yes, I am a part of the region and the history that has not always done what it was supposed to have done."

That can be said for any politician in any part of the country.

Yesterday, Julianne Malveaux caused an uproar on CNN's Late Edition, when she called Judge Pickering "another sheet wearing,KKK Republican."

The intelligent part of Juleanne Malveaux was caught by a condom.

What we see was created from the part that leaked out.

What source? One of Bill Clinton's final moves was to agree to defend this case in Colorado despite the fact he said he wasn't going to. This was clearly just another time bomb Clinton laid for this Administration.

My guess is that your source is the NYT's or some other Liberal Rag claiming thay have the inside skinny on this administration. I will wait to the brief is actually submitted before I denounce anything. I know they plan to defend it, But my question is.....Just how hard will they.

There is more than one way to skin a cat my friend

he energized the Black base

What is wrong with that? I hope he energies the entire race of all colors. It would be nice to have people voting for a change.

TLB .. I have been one of those who agree that Lott should not resign over the Thurmond comment and I accepted his apology .. but what I have seen of this interview so far .. is not helping him
