I am not jumping on him just because of this. It is a pattern which goes back to his betrayal of the "self righteous" House members who voted for impeachment. They actually believed in taking risks for principle when the chips were down.

One man's pork is another man's bacon. He's not throwing money around just to waste it, as I TRIED to tell you. He is trying to bring jobs to people who NEED them. These are the same people who you and a few others say he doesn't care about.
BTW, it hurts me when my money gets sent to California.

>>Would you buy a used car from Trent Lott?<<
Yes, but only if he's in that business next week.

BTW, it hurts me when my money gets sent to California. The difference of course is that Mississippi takes in more federal dollars than it produces, and California is used as a federal ATM machine.

A lot of people didn't want Lott to step down as Majority Leader simply because of this one off hand statement that was obviously a stupid remark., (myself included). Many also didn't want conservatives to abandon Lott, (again, myself included). I think there were many here that wanted him to step down because of his inability to lead effectively in the past and his stupid remark was just an opportunity to show him the door. (I understood that) BUT Trent Lott has made it completely clear that he DOES NOT have what it takes to be the Majority Leader and should step down and become the Chairman of some little known Committee.
On the very first day of this controversy he should of came out an issued a public (Written Statement) that apologized for his insensitive comments that were intended to patronize a 100 year old Senator on his retirement and then apologized to the President for hurting the Republican Party and reversing much of the progress he and the Republican Party have accomplished in convincing African Americans that the party of Lincoln is for the advancement of all the people equally.

You are all a bunch of hypocritical babies. If you look into the etymology of the word 'hypocrite' you will find that the root word's original Greek meaning had to do with 'an actor on a stage'.
...and of course we all know what a baby is.
Seems to me that it is Lott who is the phony actor, hypocritically playing something he is not...and that his defenders who are starting to whine are the babies, because their harsh tactics in trying to coerce conservatives into defending the indefensible Lott have miserably failed.

An open question to all...
Are you for or against affirmative action?
I think in todays PC world folks are afraid to answer this honestly.

Now that Trent Lott is one of the "homies", I wonder what the Liberals are going to say about Republicans after they boot him out?
Soon, we are going to be calling Lott The First Black Senate Majority Leader", then we are going to dump him.
This is better than a novel.

He didn't do himself any good on either side of the fence is my opinion. Lott is a politician and that came out by him trying to please the host with his answers.... He was cut off from his thoughts at times so it was somewhat disjointed. Lott isn't the sharpest stick in the pile so sometimes he tries to say or do things that are best left alone. He missed some opportunities to explain further what he really meant but let the host cut him off and didn't come back to it. Just a few of my initial reactions...

I've had African Americans on my staff and other minorities, but particularly African Americans, since the mid-1970s." You see, everybody has a different definition of AA. In Lott's case it is to hire one black in the mail room out of several hundred employees he has hired over the years, or some such. I am afraid I am beginning to think that Lott is a pathelogical liar, a liar in that what he says is untrue, and pathelogical in that he believes that they are true, for the sole reason that the convenience of the moment indicates it would ease his way a bit.

"If another vote is held, it will come down to who is the most palateable to the Northeastern RINOS..."They are not "ALL" RINOS...Santorum sure as heck isn't. What's with all this broad brush crap that Lott's idiocy has brought out? We're all AMERICANS, remember?

Is this farce over yet?

thin-skinned blacks Racist.
Look up his record before you start making assumptions. Where do you think he should be sending jobs (like ship building) instead of to HIS OWN STATE that he represents, for crying out loud? Why do you think he keeps getting elected? It takes more than just whites to vote for him.

""Does anyone else see the irony in Lott going on BLACK Entertainment Television to apologize for making remarks that could be construed as segregationist?"
Very astute point" . . .
It also demonstrates how destructive Lott's fiasco is to the conservative cause of a colorblind meritocracy. He is sucking up to the real segregationists in this country and is happily and willing flushing any and all conservative ideals to save himself.
Frankly he should resign from the senate. He is a disgrace to conservatism.

So, it's payback, and that's why you are having fun? As if you think he could have got a conviction...hold it, you do...
Yeah....
To: MJY1288
What does that mean?
To: MJY1288
This is sad. An argument against Affirmative Action could have been easily made and Lott chose to ignore his voting record and say he WAS for Affirmative Action That was my thought as well...why didn't he make the argument?
