The first black Senate Majority Leader?

I can't believe what is happening right now or that anyone could be supporting Lott. Every time he waxes remorseful, he either directly or indirectly inplicates the entire GOP and conservative movement in his "racism". As if "we" all publicly pined for Jim Crow. Exactly. Like the GOP is full of closet racists and this is his coming out interview.
His admissions of racism in the past naturally implicate the party, and the BET interviewer even tried to get him to name OTHER racists he knew.
Everyone associated with him is getting dirty.

Lott is now going to throw pork around, support affirmative action, and it is only for his job, not for any deep rooted philosophical principle. Bears repeating.
Principle and conservative goals have taken a back seat to Lott clinging to power.

"However, I am all for scholarships and entry-level jobs open to help kids of lesser means (of all kinds) get a leg up"Well said. And, most of us agree.

I think you are right there. I am interested in what he will have to say.

That's him!
Now Dick Morris can say he consulted for the first black president AND the first black majority leader!

Oh, I notice alright and I'm Northern born and bred.
But I have lived in the south and find the people there friendlier.

Hey! You know how it works.....the fact that he even waited to defend Pickering to that thug Gordon speaks V O L U M E S.
It was sickening. The Lott apoligists have got to stop!
To: Yaelle
Principle and conservative goals have taken a back seat to Lott clinging to power. Which was precisely what occured during impeachment. The man is untrustworthy. I trust that his backpedaling on affirmative action will now put paid to any idea that he should remain Senate Majority Leader.

Like the emperor strolling naked through the streets, Lott seems to have no idea that everyone can see right through him.

Well the Jig is up, I'd guess. I don't think he won any friends or influenced any people on either side of the issue but then that's just my opinion. Take a gander at these two links to see how things may very well work out.... The Republicans will co-op the middle and it will be a vastly different alignment and party...

Are you people aged any over 10? This thread is disgusting.
Yes, we can form complete sentences with proper grammar and syntax.

This is like the meltdown of one of the "second-hander" characters at the climax of an Ayn Rand novel. The true essence is revealed -- a quivering mass of jelly, a face "avoiding the responsibility of shape." It's too late, Trent! No one can help you now! You have damned your own soul, you sad, pathetic sponge of human being.
To: Torie
"Of course, "affirmative action" is one of those terms that can be defined this way or that, so Lott really has committed to anything."
On a related note, Bush's weakest moment in the debates was when he was pressed on whether he supported affirmative action. A compassionate conservative cannot answer that question without looking ridiculous. You can either say no, yes, or look like you are trying to avoid the question. What should Lott have said? Actually, our best bet is probably to say we are all affirmative action supporters now, and then define that to mean we support race blind policies. Let's just go along with their stupid game. One of the reasons it would be nice to have a functional media in this country is that they might not allow politicians to hide behind meaningless phrases. But until then...

Good rid. It's of no use to tell Trent to not let the door knob hit him on the way out. He probably enjoys it.Uh oh, Armstrong Williams was castigating Lott for being homophobic.
Careful.

Highlights? Sorry, but a quick search only turned up lowlights.
To: Hazzardgate
The Lott apologists tell us to be *loyal* to Lott (for the sake of proving a point) but what about his disloyalty (for the sake of groveling to BET) to Pickering? Is this loyalty thing just a one way street?
To: GRRRRR
It's okay with you to have a "racist" stay but not as ML? That makes no sense whatsoever. But nothing that any of you have said makes any sense. No one can please any of you bitching and complaining. You are all a bunch of hypocritical babies.
