...to me, Lott is coming off as a desperate man, ready to pander, grovel, whatever it takes... And this is a new development?
To: Amelia
Some Blacks love it when Whites grovel to them. I think some Blacks are gonna love this from Lott. Kind of like turning the tables on Whitey: it's time for YOU to be a slave.

Has Lott ever been in favor of affirmative action before? Of course, "affirmative action" is one of those terms that can be defined this way or that, so Lott really has committed to anything.

Ed Gordon asked him if he'd reconsider the Pickering nomination in light of what has happened......he said he would. So, he just labeled Pickering a racist.
To: Hazzardgate
Pickering.......down the tubes Maybe not. He didn't totally buckle on Pickering. I was getting worried that Lott might totally collapse and declare Pickering unfit for the USSC. In a flash of courage he defended Pickering.

The CBC guy is ripping him to shreds now.....Lott better get his @ss out fast before this goes any further.
To: Austin Willard Wright
"Where are all the Lott defenders on FR? Speak up for new shining conservative knight. "
This needs repeating. Where are all of those true-blue pristine principled freepers that defended this useless detritus? Come on TLB et al.
Gosh I didn't realize all those Freepers were pro-afirmative action. What a surprise.

You want to play hardball....the problem is that Lott *can't* play hardball, thus, even if Bush followed your strategy, it would fail. Lott needs to go for such a strategy ever to happen.

Yes we do, DB -- I saw it. Started at 5.

Any Lott defenders left out there?
Has anyone used the term LottBots yet?

At first I didn't want to see Lott's fellow Senators to abandon him and let his apology stand.
But!!! Trent Lott is the one who abandoned Trent Lott

I don't know how this is playing to the black audience...to me, Lott is coming off as a desperate man, ready to pander, grovel, whatever it takes...I don't know whether this makes him look as though he's really apologetic & realizes he did something stupid (but really DIDN'T mean it the way it sounded), or whether it just appears that he'll do ANYTHING to stay in power.... IMO, right now letting Lott near a camera is a huge mistake. He just keeps digging the hole deeper. At this point, no one, of whatever skin pigment, has much confidence in the guy's sincerity.
We can easily overcome the problems he has created as a party, though. It's simply a matter of installing new capable leadership and getting to work.

I'm happy I'm BET deprived so I don't have to watch this.

Yikes. I think the guy has gone insane if he is abandoning Pickering. That means he might resign from the senate I think.

I'm serious. I didn't know Trent Lott was for affirmative action especially given his voting record.
That was a surprise and a disappointment. Did anyone else know that?
I'm against affirmative action by the way
To: Torie
Lott has always been opposed to affirmative action Torie. Solidly. Not even a waver until now. Recent votes include his opposition to affirmative action programs for minority owned contractors doing business with the federal government.
