He was in favor of a maximum wage. He thought it should be set at $0.00.

Whoever said that Daschle wouldn't offer McCain his precious chair if McCain proved to be the one that returned the Democrats to an illegitimate "majority" (I seem to remember a similar promise made to Jeffords)?

I believe it didn't matter what evidence would have been presented when you had one Dem senator saying that even if they presented that Clinton committed murder and they still would not have voted to convict... But like you stated earlier in the thread, this is not relevant to the thread...

So if you had to choose between the two, is it Frist or Lott?

It wasn't Lott who won those seats to get us back in the majority... it was Bush...

I certainly never said it was. We won in spite of Lott and Frist, not because of them.

I give the credit for winning to:

a) The Republicans who worked their hearts out in their states to make it so.

b) The Candidates who ran winning campaigns.

c) The President.

Fire away, pal. I've always been calling for Lott's replacement as Senate Republican leader; I'm not going to change just because the NAALCP decided to call for Lott's Senate seat.

Just be aware that the BEST that you can reasonably expect from Lott is that he'll advance the NAALCP agenda for the couple of months it takes for him to finish redecorating Daschle's office.

So Lott owes his ML status to those 3 groups (or persons). He is apparently not doing a very good job of showing his appreciation.

Lott.

Surprised?

But thankfully, this is not an either or proposition. Nickles is still the frontrunner by far. :-)

I agree... he isn't.

No. It was all about Nickles with you. You should get in touch with Deport and Sinkspur and Texasforever and TBL and plot strategy as to how to save Lott's butt. There are been stranger alliances. :)

Daschle would had done it already...

You don't let a loose cannon into the fold without having full control (or at least thinking you have full control). Without a guarantee of an uncontested illegitimate "majority", McCain is too much of a loose cannon to both the Republicans and the Democrats.

Morever, I don't know if Daschle hasn't already made this offer, or if McCain accepted it if it was made. If he has, it would be in Daschle's and McCain's best interest to not make that public until they have to. That kind of public revelation might have the effect of ensuring Lott's survival as Senator, if not Majority Leader with a freshly-minted backbone.

Did you read my entire post? Frist would hold the position while the party has a chance to straighten this mess out. The sole purpose is to give us some time. He is the only one with enough political savy to run this gamit without losing Chafee or McCain and he's only going to be in the senate until the end of his current term.

We have a mess on our hands, not just caused by Lott, but by the dems who now think they have a political advantage. Frist will push Bush's agenda and do a fine job of it and then will leave the field open to Lott, McConnell, and Nichols to fight it out over the position once this firestorm has died down.

It's the very best solution possible. We didn't make this mess but we're going to have to clean it up. It's the only solution that will allow everybody but the dems and the race baiters to win.

Your right, your free to say that you will dump the party if the party dumps lott as leader. Some might perceive such actions to be childish.

deport, he would be thown a lifeline with this one, if he quits the senate then he's permanently tarred with the racist brush and on top of that he will earn the rightous anger of half the people in America. His after Senate life would be a living hell and he's smart enough to know that.

The people in Mississippi will feel sorry for him, but they will be furious that they no longer have any pull in the senate and that would soon come home to them as the federal dollars dried up as a result of angry senators and furious big buck republican business owners.

As head of some important committee, and with the gratitude of his compatriots, he could shovel some real pork to the folks back home, and in a high profile position he could rebuild his image and use the "the dems almost destroyed me by character assassination" like a club to beat the dems with. If he's fool enough to pass that up then he's way too foolish to ever handle the position of majority leader.

He brought this on himself, first with his words, and then by the clumsy way he handled it. It's a golden opportunity for him to end up looking like a hero.

LOL..There is no way to save Lott's butt. He's toast, stick a fork in him.

I hope the GOP Senators and the President and his advisors have enough sense not to jump from the frying pan into the fire by choosing Frist.

Nickles is a perfect fit with this Administration, and he will be a unifier for them with the conservative wing. The best of both worlds for everyone.

We need a unified party going into '04 and this very well could all turn out to be a lemons-into-lemonade event.

LOL>.... Yep gotta save that ol' Trent "racist" Lott's butt.... Actually I don't have much use for Lott but I have less use for capitulating to a bunch of race pimps, democrats, feminist, CDC, etc. I prefer that Lott wasn't there but he is and for the time being I'd just like to see him retain his position.

I really believe that the opposition sees this as a way to gain back the Senate at least to a 50/50 arrangement or maybe even the majority.....

As far as EV's projections I don't put much faith in them..... he has come up on the short stick with most of his candidates as far as I can tell... Sort of like the forecasting done by that seer.... crystalk during the LA elections...
