"Not all teachers are on the same page politically."

Yep, that's my point. Although the Union Leadership is 100% RAT, the teachers themselves span the political spectrum and promoting conservatism within their ranks has got to be one of the Right's priorities, IMHO.

Agreed. Do B.B. King WITHOUT Bono in the future, please.

Ditto that.

I hope I get to meet you!!

What a nice things to say! I look forward to meeting you and the lovely Mrs. Sultan and all the little Sultanites and Mudpuppies who are able to attend, too!

jla, I don't know if we'll have time to do anything with the Republicans or not, unless Congressman Cantor wants to come have lunch with us and give us a tour of the Capitol building :^) That time of year, Congress is in session so he may be in D.C. unless he comes home on weekends. The Virginia General Assembly will be finished so there won't be any of them around to join us. I'm thinking out loud, so anyone just chime in if they have any suggestions.

One of my Sultanites works up your way. He is the Staff Historian at the Loudoun Museum. He goes by the name of Yankhater on this forum and he would be happy to give you a personal tour of his museum and the historical areas of Leesburg. Just ask for Mark.

Mud, check to see if Mrs. Cantor still works over in Monroe. Making that connection might be useful if we want to set something up with Eric in Richmond.

Mud, I'm talking college, college, college!! That'e where the young skulls full of mush get fed even MORE mush. Just how many conservative professors did you have? I am a bit older than you and I remember there was only one noted conservative prof at my institution of higher learning. And one of my young 'uns went to what is considered a very conservative school (Ole Miss) and he had just one History Prof in 4 1/2 years who was even slightly to the right of center. Some were admitted Socialists. For some reason, Cal Berkely grads like to migrate to Southern Universities to spread their indoctrination.

sultan, re your post on college professors -- read my post #1 below, for info about the author, and then read his article (also below):

Great article. Some lively debate followed.

From most of what I read lately it seems as though the liberal/socialist/hate America/blame America first types are still in control of academia and stifling opposing views at every turn. The incident at Arizona State being the most recent example. I find it infuriating. There may have been backlash immediately following 9-11, but I don't see any consequences.

He is the Staff Historian at the Loudoun Museum.

That's wonderful! Pencil in a Loudoun Country and Loudoun Museum freeper field trip. So much to visit out that way, too. In the two years I've been at Free Republic, we Virginians haven't done too well with getting organized. We'll have to see if that changes in 2003. BTW, the General Assembly convenes January 8. If anyone hasn't started poking around and looking at the bills that have either been introduced or carried over from last year, get busy! Looks like thousands of them just waiting to bug you in some way or another. Bills and Resolutions

"A Farewell to Sleaze!!"
(To be sung to Rush's "A Farewell to Kings")

When they write the pages of history...
And Clinton's Crimes have long been exposed,
Will they write of US with disgust...
For the deeds that we let go?!!

We turned our gaze from vile scandals by the Clintons...
Eyes cast down on the path of least resistance!!
Lib'rals full of Hatred, Fear, and LIES!!!
DemonRATS are FOOLS to ignore Slick's Spies!!
Treas'nous Demons cloaked in White House guise...
Trashin' all our liberties, while abortin' Unborn lives!!

The DemonRATS are slandering the Sacred Halls of Truth...
Public Schools unburdening their bitterness on Youth!!
Can't we heed the Laws that made US strong?!!
Ohhh, can't we learn to tell what's Right from what's Wrong?!!
WHAT'S WRONG?!!

Lib'rals full of Hatred, Fear, and LIES!!!
Socialists protectin' Chi-Com SPIES!!
TeeVee Demons fawning 'bout their guys...
Slayin' all that's True and Good, while scoffin' at The Wise!!
Woah...Can't we raise OUR Voice and make a start?!!
Can't we find the Will to blast Slick's Stonewall apart?!!

"Mud, I'm talking college, college, college!! That'e where the young skulls full of mush get fed even MORE mush."

Public Ed in K-12 is one tough nut to crack, and the Universities are a totally different thing to deal with, IMHO. At the K-12 level, we need to get the Federales outta the classrooms entirely...starting with Vouchers and ending up with NO FED INVOLVEMENT whatsoever!! The way to deal with the rancid LeftWing Bias in the colleges is via the Alumni and their contributions and via the parents of students. If the folks paying these IGNORANT DOLT Professor's salaries start demanding some ideological diversity and use their money as a weapon, we'll see the Universities shape up or DIE!!

"Just how many conservative professors did you have?"

BWAHAHAHAHA!! I was in Architecture School, remember, so there was no such thing as Conservatism...except for a few adjunct professors who actually made their living in the real world and just taught in academia outta a pure love fer teaching. Those whose primary paycheck was from the University had NO CLUE!!

"the Penn State/Auburn matchup"

As much as I'm sure you like JoPa, PSU's gotta start thinking about doing what we did with Welsh a coupla years back. Both were the best coaches their respective Universities ever had, but once you get on the downslope of yer career, I simply think it's tough to get the top-flight schoolboys to get excited about yer program.

"...a serious solution requires recognition of the one-sided intellectual climate of the contemporary academy. Ironically, a decades-long effort to achieve diversity on our campuses has left them more intellectually and politically uniform than ever. In the name of representing marginalized points of view, we have created an orthodoxy of dissent. If the country decides that our colleges and universities have nothing to offer in this time of crisis beyond one-sided analyses supporting a distinctly minority viewpoint, then not only will our ethos of free speech be threatened, but the academy itself may be caught up in a crisis of legitimacy. If the radical professoriate wants its rights of free speech respected, it will need to relearn the meaning of the freedom it is asking for, and readmit to the academy thoughtful representatives of the very ideas it has heretofore excluded."

Excellent link, my FRiend...I appreciate you bringing it to the Black threads 'cuz I'd have never read "The Chronicle of Higher Education" on my own...LOL!!
