Useful Tips
I don't know why you'd want to use some of these...

  1. Budweiser beer rinse conditions the hair.
  2. Pam cooking spray will dry finger nail polish.
  3. Cool whip will condition your hair in 15 min.
  4. Mayonnaise will kill Lice , it will also condition your hair.
  5. Spike your hair with Close-up toothpaste (it will also tint it).
  6. Elmer's Glue-paint on your face, allow it to dry, peel off and see the dead skin and blackheads. Also works to remove splinters or cactus spines - just let dry on your skin.
  7. Shiny Hair-use brewed Lipton Tea.
  8. Sunburn -empty a large jar of Nestea into your bath water.
  9. Minor burn- Colgate or Crest toothpaste.
  10. Burn your tongue? Put sugar on it!
  11. Arthritis? WD-40. Spray and rub in, kill insect stings too. Also spray it on wasps nests - they'll be unable to move.
  12. Bee stings - meat tenderizer.
  13. Chigger bite - Preparation H.
  14. Puffy eyes - Preparation H.
  15. Paper cut - crazy glue or chap stick. Glue is used instead of sutures at most hospitals lately.
  16. Sore nipples - (Nursing Mothers) chap stick or a wet Lipton tea bag.
  17. Stinky feet - Jell-O!! A woman who volunteered, said she actually had stinky feet, her feet were put in a pan of jello!
  18. Athlete's feet - cornstarch.
  19. Fungus on toenails or fingernails Vapo-Rub.
  20. Koolaid to clean dishwasher pipes. Just put in the detergent section and run a cycle, it will also clean a toilet.
  21. Koolaid also can be used as a dye in paint.
  22. Koolaid in Dannon plain yogurt as a finger paint, "Your kids will love it and it won't hurt them if they eat it!"
  23. Peanut butter - will get scratches out of CD's! Wipe off with a coffee filter paper.
  24. Sticking bicycle chain - Pam no-stick cooking spray.
  25. Pam will also remove paint, and grease from your hands! Keep a can in your garage for your hubby.
  26. Peanut butter will remove ink from the face of dolls.
  27. When the doll clothes are hard to put on, sprinkle with corn starch and watch them slide on.
  28. Heavy dandruff - pour on the vinegar!
  29. Body paint - Crisco mixed with food coloring. Heat the Crisco in the microwave, pour into an empty film container and mix with the food color of your choice!
  30. Tie Dye T-Shirt - mix a solution of kool aid in a container, tie a rubber band around a section of the t-shirt and soak.
  31. Stress buster - preferably for a work group - take a roll of scotch tape and a packet of straws and build a tower without talking to each other!
  32. Preserving a newspaper clipping - large bottle of club soda and 1/2 cup of milk of magnesia, soak for 20 min and let dry, will last for years!
  33. A Slinky will hold toast and CD's!
  34. To keep goggles and glasses from fogging, coat with Colgate toothpaste.
  35. Stay-Free Maxi Pads- clean window, floors, just stick to the palm of your hands and work! Can also be used as a knee pad.
  36. Pampers as an absorbent! Remove stains from the carpet with club soda & a pamper to absorb. Wine stains, pour on the Morton salt and watch it absorb into the salt.
  37. To remove wax - Take a paper towel and iron it over the wax stain, it will absorb into the towel.
  38. Remove labels off glassware etc. rub with peanut butter!
  39. Baked on food: fill container with water, add a Bounce softener sheet and the static from the Bounce will cause the baked on food to adhere to it. Soak overnight. Also; you can use two Efferdent tablets, soak overnight!
  40. Crayon on the wall - colgate toothpaste and brush it!
  41. Dirty grout - Listerine
  42. Stains on clothes - Colgate toothpaste
  43. Grass stains - Karo Syrup!
  44. Grease Stains- Coca Cola, it will also remove grease stains from the driveway overnight. We know it will take corrosion from batteries!
  45. Sweat Stains - Efferdent, or vinegar.
  46. Use a Maxi Pad in your cap as a sweat band!
  47. Fleas in your carpet? 20 Mule Team Borax- sprinkle and let stand for 24 hours.
  48. Last but not the least, it is my favorite one! To Keep FRESH FLOWERS longer add a little Clorox, or 2 Bayer aspirin, or just use 7-up instead of water.

**Caution: If you use #46, please do not remove your hat. This makes "hat hair" a whole new concept!

If you're having a large crowd, you can also use cream cheese (the soft kind) with salsa, in a different way.

First you get a fairly large clear glass bowl. You line the bowl with the cream cheese. Then, you just pour in your favorite salsa. As you dip in the salsa, you get a dab of the cream cheese with every bite.

As an added touch, you can draw little designs in the cream cheese before you pour in the salsa.

Something a bit different for the holidays:

Shrimp & Crab Potato Bites

Potato crust: 1 1/2 cups refrigerated hash browns and 2 tablespoons melted butter

Filling: 1 8-oz container of chive & onion cream cheese. 1 cup shredded swiss cheese. 1 (6 oz) can crabmeat, drained, cartilage removed, flaked. 1 (4 oz) package frozen cooked shrimp salad, thawed, drained. 1 egg. 1 tablespoon flour. 1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper.

Heat oven to 425. Combine all crust ingredients in small bowl. Press into bottom of ungreased 8-inch square baking pan. Bake for 20 min.

Combine all filling ingredients except 1/4 cup of cheese in medium bowl; mix well. Spread mixture over hot, partially baked potato layer. Bake for 10-15 min or until cheese mixture is set. Let stand 5 min. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.

Cut into squares and garnish with parsley. Serve warm or room temp.

How about something to sip on in the evening while digesting all that good food?

Irish Cream Liqueur

3 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons coconut extract
2 cups Irish Whiskey
1 (14-oz) can sweetened condensed milk
3 tablespoons chocolate syrup

In a blender, combine eggs, vanilla and coconut extracts, and whiskey. Blend for 1 minute. Add condensed milk and chocolate syrup; blend 3 minutes more. Cover and refrigerate until thick, about 3-4 weeks. Makes about 1 quart.

Geeeze Lodwick, buying, books, books, books......what in the heck gotintia..you've been having a party while the Mrs is outa town? <]:o) oh oh, have you been in the pantry, sippin that there cookin sherry again, my dear friend....LOLOL What can I say..breaktaking is a great word..thankful is another, greatful for all of your support, but honored to know you best discribes what I feel. Yes - go to Sam's Club. In the freezer dept. they have a wonderful assortment.

Great advice. You are right on target GYPSY. Buying the bulk of your basics finger foods, meatballs, chick livers, miniature drumsticks, egg rolls... etc then supplement each of them with your own great dipping, and scooping sauces. You will be an absolute winner.
If make a few special dipping sauces and decorate your table with wonderful stuff like flowers, feathers, assorted bright vegetables (left whole) all kinds of fruits, and cheeses, floral greens.. figurines, even mirrors, you will set a new standard in party planning I'll dig up some real dipping diamonds for your party... Good Luck

I walked into the grocery store not particularly interested in buying groceries. I wasn't hungry. The pain of losing my husband of 7 years was still too raw. And this grocery store held so many sweet memories.

He often came with me and almost every time he'd pretend to go off and look for something special. I knew what he was up to. I'd always spot him walking down the aisle with the three yellow roses in his hands. He knew that I loved yellow roses.

With a heart filled with grief, I only wanted to buy my few items and leave, but even grocery shopping was different since he had passed on. Shopping for one took time, a little more thought than it had for two.

Standing by the meat, I searched for the perfect small steak and remembered how he had loved his steak.

Suddenly a woman came beside me.She was blonde, slim and lovely in a soft green pantsuit.I watched as she picked up a large pack of T-bones, dropped them in her basket, hesitated, and then put them back.. She turned to go and once again reached for the pack of steaks.

She saw me watching her and she smiled. "My husband loves T-bones, but honestly, at these prices, I don't know."

I swallowed the emotion down my throat and met her pale blue eyes. "My husband passed away eight days ago," I told her.

Glancing at the package in her hands, I fought to control the tremble in my voice. "Buy him the steaks. And cherish every moment you have together."

She shook her head and I saw the emotion in her eyes as she placed the package in her basket and wheeled away. I turned and pushed my cart across the length of the store to the dairy products. There I stood, trying to decide which size milk I should buy.

Quart, I finally decided and moved on to the ice cream. If nothing else, I could always fix myself an ice cream cone. I placed the ice cream in my cart and looked down the aisle toward the front.

I saw first the green suit, then recognized the pretty lady coming towards me. In her arms she carried a package. On her face was the brightest smile I had ever seen. I would swear a soft halo encircled her blonde hair as she kept walking toward me, her eyes holding mine. As she came closer, I saw what she held and tears began misting in my eyes.

"These are for you," she said and placed three beautiful long stemmed yellow roses in my arms.

"When you go through the line, they will know these are paid for."

She leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek, then smiled again. I wanted to tell her what she'd done, what the roses meant, but still unable to speak, I watched as she walked away as tears clouded my vision.

I looked down at the beautiful roses nestled in the green tissue wrapping and found it almost unreal. How did she know? Suddenly the answer seemed so clear. I wasn't alone. Oh, you haven't forgotten me, have you? I whispered, with tears in my eyes. He was still with me, and she was his angel.

Fresh Basil and Walnut Dip


Combine all ingredients except the walnuts in a
food processor and process until smooth.  Stir in the walnuts.
Serve with raw vegetables for dipping,
This recipe will produce about 1 cup. You can increase this to fit your party... you will love this because it is entirely different and great tasting.

 Easy Honey Yogurt Fruit Dip
Mix all ingredients together -- chill for 2 hours before serving.

When ready to serve, cut an assortment of fresh fruit (peaches, strawberries, bananas, cantaloupe, apples, etc.)
into bite-sized pieces.  Put the bowl of dip in the center of a pretty platter; arrange the fresh fruit around it.
Note: This dip will not keep overnight.  The honey will break down the yogurt.
