Sean Hannity is gonna hang himself with this Lott issue.

Hannity.com Frontpage:

"Saying he used "a poor choice of words," Trent Lott spoke with Sean on the newsmakers phoneline at length on December 11th in an exclusive interview. This follows a firestorm of criticism by Liberals and Conservatives alike in reaction to comments made by Lott at Sen Strom Thurman's 100th birthday party."

You mean to tell me you have a girl friend? I figured you for a catcher, not a pitcher.
In any event, the left doesn't care anymore about Liberty U. than BJU.

Agree with your initial post. Lott is a Redneck Republican, out of synch with the majority of Republicans.
His mouth runneth over. He is a weak leader. He should step down from the leadership(not resign) and let someone with some smarts and statesmanship take over the helm.

Lott has made himself a liability. He is the stereotypical Mississippi bigot, and the Republicans don't need his kind around.

BTW, I was so glad to see Thurmond GONE--FINALLY! We don't need anymore of these living corpses dragging the party down.

Lott is a throwback to the segregationist era We don't need his kind either.

Ahh...brilliance walked in the door and we all swooned.

Thanks for the input Billy.
The depth and bredth of your wisdom is truly mesmerizing.

Amazing! If you didn't know about the Dixicrats 54 years ago, Trent Lott's statement would have absolutely no meaning at all - not to the past, not to the present.

And please do track down what AlGore said. So far he is the ONLY person who appears to have been present, heard it first hand, and made the racism charge in time for Time magazine's issue date. A whole lot of other folks heard what he said (and apparantly saw a film of it all) and it did not initially strike them as a racist statement. That came ONLY after AlGore said it.

But aside from that for a moment, you really are a Harry Truman fan aren't you? Does it upset you when I present evidence that he was a particularly virulent and dangerous racist?

....Lott has made himself a liability....

Exactly. The Dems branded Buchanan as a bigot (which Pat never effectively responded to) and when Pat bolted the party, the Dems have been searching for a replacement ever since. Now they have Lott — served up on silver platter — and they are ecstatic. They were in disarray and fracturing their relations with the Black Community — now all that is changing, thanks to Lott.

"The bredth of your wisdom"..... Better get back to elementary school and learn a little spelling, Lad. Your sense of self importance is totally underwhelming.

However Sean Hannity is up there whining like a caught-red-handed Arab Terrorist who now wants to whine about the other side before dealing with his own problems [imho]. That to me is what it sounds like.

I say do both at the same time.

This is chess not checkers.

I know that. It is time for Republicans to do a little less sacrificing en passant and a little more castling.

Oi...

"And please do track down what AlGore said."

Maybe I didnt make it clear [it sure looked like I did though].
I do not care what Al Gore said. It is of no consequence. He has no juice. No political capital. He is a flake who has a book rated like #256 on the best seller list.

Nobody [except you] care what he says.

Okay...is that clear?

Now as to this endless linking of Asian Americans to this topic.

Okay...what do you want to hear? What can I type that'll fit into your World? That'll fill the neverending empty void that waits for some sort of anti-Asian remark?

What do you wanna hear? I hate Kung-Fu movies? That I thought Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was a subtle chic flic? How'bout I cant stand Jet Lee cause he is so friggin fast with them graphically enhanced body blows? Will that do it for you?

How about I think we should Nuke North Korea just because their leader wears those friggin one piece polyester jumpsuits. Would that assuage your ire at not having someone throw a lowball at any Asians lately [past some kid in the Bronx insulting the corner market merchant]?

Look I know that the Wen Ho Lee subject doesnt have alot of legs anymore....what with the passage of time...kinda like WWII...but you really should stop trying to introduce Asain-American relations into subjects that have nothing to do with that.

Doesn't everybody realize that this could happen SOOOOO easily

If the GOP doesn't rally behind Lott, I can see him walking knowing full well the ramifications. I do believe Lott will have to give up his ML position but the GOP will have to find a way for him to do it and still maintain a measure of dignity and remain in the senate. If not, we are back to daashole and leaky and friends.

I have not anywhere called for Lott to resign his Senate seat, nor have most conservatives critical of Lott. He should resign as Senate Majority leader (a position with national implications, thereby my concern as a member of the GOP) and remain in the Senate, and then, in the next scheduled election, let the people of Mississippi decide if they want him to remain their senator (something that is NOT my business).

Agreed and thanks for a thoughtful post. I do agree with what I heard on Rush today - the Dems are looking for any racist info on whoever may replace Lott as Majority Leader. I do believe that will backfire on the Dems and badly. There is a war going on and to have tyhe "racism pimps" going full-bore while we have threats in Iraq, Iran and elsewhere will show the vapidity of what the Dems have to bring to the table.

In fact, this Left's attack on Lott IS their agenda. They have nothing else to offer.

If Lott leaves the Senate, it will be his last great act of betrayal of the conservative cause, which he has placed in jeopardy already.
The Republican majority in the Senate is far more important than this ass's blow-dried ego.

He should allow the Republican caucus to elect someone else as Majority leader, because this is a political party office and his peers are the appropriate venue to make the decision.

Having proven he is incompetent to act in the role of national leader, he should sit down, shut up, and take his seat in the Senate as the Senator from Mississippi, until the voters of Mississippi decide they want someone else.

There is no virtue at all in keeping Lott as Majority Leader, unlesss you count it a virtue to defiantly stick your tongue out at the demoshits. But be clear that as long as he is there, he is a large stationary target for every racebaiter in the 'rat party.

As such, he will eventually have to step down anyway, under a firestorm of duress, and that will cripple the credibility of the Republican Party.
It will confirm for a generation the 'rat propaganda that the GOP is a bunch of throwbacks who need to be dragged kicking and screaming into the
Post-Civil War era.

No, it will show that the GOP will not tolerate 1950's racism any longer. That would be a good thing.

No it shows that republicans support 2002 racism.

Hmmm...

1950's racism was around keeping people down. 2002 racism is about victimology and shakedowns. If anything, Republicans drawing a line in the sand is about saying "Enough, already."

"This is just the first salvo to be fired in the leftwing media's witch hunt."

To be sure. Not even the first. Problem is, Lott loaded the gun and handed it to them.
This is not about an old man's birthday, or a 57-year-old splinter campaign. This about a statement in 2002, by a Republican leader, which endorses a segregationist platform. Plain and simple.

Don't even try to tell me that Lott didn't know what the Dixiecrats were about. Or that he 'forgot." Those excuses are so lame they make me puke.

If Lott doesn't remove himself from the bulls-eye, he will destroy everything we've accomplished in the last two years to give the President a Republican Senate that can function.

PC my a**. The man's a deadly liability as ML. Witch hunts fall under their own weight, as long as there ultimately are no witches. Lott is a "witch" alive and in the flesh.

Every center-right republican in office is on the "witch" list. Lott is just the latest in a long string of "witches" driven from power by the race lobby. It will never end until the GOP finally makes a united stand against it. I predicted last night that if Lott is driven out the only GOP Majority Leader that will be allowed to be seated will be Olympia Snowe and guess what, she was out today demanding that Lott go on TV and “explain” himself.

"The lesson from the Lott affair is that there is no statute of limitations on allegedly racist thoughts."

Wrong. The lesson from the Lott affair is that in the year 2002, you don't spout this crap, even if you privately believe it, and expect not to get smeared.

Yep...

Lott [and what is left of the Conservative Good Ol'Boy clique] played themselves. Throwing a public [chocked full of media camers] birthday party for Thurmond was nothing more than the "Gloating & a shot of whisky troop" trying to rub the Liberal Snobbery's face in it.

We win the friggin Senate and Congress [again] and they are going about with their business as usual approach to dealing with PC issues. It is impossible for Lott to keep his mouth shut and do his job. Impossible.

The entire concept of Trent Lott giving a speech at Thurmond's tribute was filled with landmines that couldve been avoided by simply using some commonsense. Lott didnt and now we are where we are.

He's an idiot and now GW has to come in with a strong rebuke in order to try and right the public ship. The President has a million other better things to be dealing with than this nonsense. Bottomline....if Lott makes it through this...he'll do something else down the road to reinforce the proposition that he should not be the leader of the Republicans in the Senate.
