"
Jimmy Carter offers to mediate peace talks between Israel and Palestinians..."This would only mean no more Israel.
The poor cracker either is to stupid to realize that Palistinians want Israel exterminated or else he's too stubborn to admit it.
His record in foreign affairs is a total flop.

Maybe Jimmah thinks he can become the voice of the Democrat party?
After all, the Democratic party is all about failing, something in which Jimmy Carter has a Master's Degree in!!!
To: nightdriver
Maybe Jimmy will offer to go over and build houses that the Hezbollah can blow up to vent their frustration over being "Oppressed and Victimized"

Now I'm utterly confuuuuuuused! What's there to negotiate, there is peace! The newspapers said yesterday that he had received his Nobel Prize for brokering peace in the Middle East way back in 1979. Or is it me, and peace is an ongoing, neverending project for gubmint experts, sort of like the War on Poverty and the War on Drugs? Oh, I see now, my mistake, in 1979 Jimmuh declared the War on Peace permanent gubmint program!

Jimmy will browbeat both sides with his endless mouth.

Coming off of winning the Nobel Peace Prize, and as a former US President, Carter is in a unique position to try and mediate an end to at least some of the conflict that is going on.
He has credibility with the major players and represents a chance at hope for two peoples who are getting tired of slaughter.
In any event, he can't make the situation any worse. So far as I see the only real reason that FReepers are against the idea is because he used to have a "D" in front of his name.
Put another way: Would you be so opposed if Ronald Reagan regained his mental health and made a similar offer?

Jimmy is an utter failure at everything he does. Nuff Said.
To: Zeroisanumber
One more thing!
Jimmy wants to try and mediate with Hezbollah and Hamas!
You can't mediate with terrorists! The terrorists don't want peace!!! The terrorists want to terrorize!!!!
You won't stop terrorists unless you KILL THEM DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS.

Right...like when he demanded that the Shah step down in Iran, an action which plunged Iran into the most anti-human-rights area in the world.
Or how about him going over to North Korea for clinton in 1994, and helping the idea that North Korea won't develop nuclear weapons if we build them nuclear reactors.
Also, how about the rampant inflation and unemployment during jimmy carter's presidency?

Oops I forgot that he was the fool that gave up the Panama Canal
To: ConservativeMan55
On the SAME day that this old fool was getting his lobbied for Putlizer Peace Prize, a North Korean ship was intercepted taking MISSLES to the Middle East. (this is the SAME North Korea that Jimmy Carter told us all had promised HIM that they would NOT make nuclear weapons). The LAST person the WORLD needs to be a mediator is a fool who BELEVES what thug dictators who STARVE their own people will promise.

By now everyones heard about Jimmy Carters latest spasm of brilliance. Criticizing President Bush's "axis of evil" phrase as "overly simplistic and counterproductive," Carter said he thought it would take years to repair the damage done by that statement. Many folks smarter than me have already pointed out the obvious lunacy of the biggest presidential failure of the last century chastising any president, but I feel the burning need to get something off my chest.
I hate Jimmy Carter. And not only that, but I hate his wife and his freakish daughter, too. All things Carter repulse me. I realize hate is a strong word that should not be used lightly. But after careful consideration Ive come to the conclusion that it is the only honest assessment I can make about the man.
Like many Americans, particularly we Southerners, Ive tried to convince myself that while his utter failure as president is without question, Jimmy Carter is a good and decent man who found his true calling as an elder statesman. In part because he is a Southerner, and in part because he is a seemingly devout Christian, many of us have tried to rationalize, compartmentalize if you will, our feelings about Jimmy Carter: President Carter, bad. Ex-president Carter, good and decent. No more. Ive had all I can stand of this pompous asshole and I will never again qualify my hatred for him.
The fact of the matter is, I find him indecent and the complete opposite of a statesman. A statesman is one who shows wisdom, skill, and vision when dealing with public issues. Clearly Jimmy Carter is no statesman.
Liberals always chide conservatives about being morally superior, but I can think of no couple that fancies themselves the moral superiors of the rest of us more than Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. I have noticed this for years. Whenever I see the Carters interact with other first families like at an inauguration or national day of mourning their condescension cannot be disguised.
Rosalynn appears to be in a continual, lifelong nervous breakdown. This poor woman makes Kitty Dukakis look sane, yet she finds the strength to look down on the scoundrels that surround her at every turn. These two are arrogant and sanctimonious and I have grown weary of their moral superiority show. I dont know what makes them think they are better than the rest of us.
I guess its because they have plenty of free time to build crappy looking row houses in neighborhoods whose residents would rather not to see their property values plummet (they paid for their houses, don't ya know). Building homes for the poor is a great thing,
I suppose, but is it consistent with their morality to sit silent while Bill Clinton runs amuck in the White House, speaking out against him only when it is too late to do a damn thing about it?
It was about this same time last year when Jimmy went public with his scathing attacks against the Clinton pardons. This conceited asshole knew Clinton was joke from the beginning but did nothing to warn America about him until it was too late.
Hes known about every Clinton scandal from Bills days as governor, and while its obvious he doesnt really like the Clintons, he never said a negative word about them when it would have mattered (e.g., 1992 at 1996). And when the Lewinsky dress hit the fan, Carters admonitions were tepid at best. When it came to denouncing Bill Clinton, whose interests was Jimmy Carter protecting? Americas or Jimmy Carters?
So excuse me if I dont get all misty eyed about the house-raising, failed ex-president from Plains when he imparts words of wisdom for President Bush. Frankly, I think he needs to spend a little less time telling the rest of us how to behave, think, and feel, and a little more time lusting in his heart.
For the only thing that Jimmy Carter hasnt failed at is sucking. When it comes to sucking, Jimmy Carter has no equal.

What? You want me to defend Carter's Presidency? All I'm saying is that he's in a good position to do some good in the Middle East now.
Or how about him going over to North Korea for clinton in 1994, and helping the idea that North Korea won't develop nuclear weapons if we build them nuclear reactors.
That was actually a better deal long-term for the N. Koreans. I hardly see how the shortsightedness of Kim Jong-il can be blamed on Carter.
To: ConservativeMan55
When will Jimmy learn that the terrorists don't want peace! They want to terrorize! Suprise Suprise!! He has learned that: he merely wants to facilitate Israel's surrender.

Carter and Clinton are still looking (groping???) for a legacy trying to appear relevant. The Peter Principle in action.
