[history]
Three African-American students at the University of Mississippi have been accused of writing racist graffiti on doors outside rooms of two other black students in the Kincannon residence hall on the Oxford campus.
The students, all freshmen, wrote vulgar and ob-scene messages at three other locations in the dorm.

If they are found guilty, their punishments could be reprimands, community service, suspension or expulsion. If white students did this, they would be expelled. I will be surprised if that happens to these three.

The students told school officials they were playing a prank on acquaintances. I seriously doubt this was a prank.

Sounds as if they have learned well from Al Sharpton. Only they got caught a little to quick but then they're young.

Ole Miss will not pursue criminal charges, Khayat said. The students caused $600 damage to the dorm, including cleaning costs and repair of doors. Okay, why is that?

Black racist? No such individual exists. Its just a figment of conservatives' pathetic attempts to excuse GOP racism. Nothing to see here folks; its time to move on.
To: ambrose
Here comes the liberal double standard.Instead of giving them exactly the same punishment a white student would get,we'll hear nothing but legalistic excuses.
And then they'll have a big pity party for the perps.

The fact that the students are African Americans "doesn't excuse their behavior,'' Khayat said.
Actually, given the fact that they were not instantly suspended pending an investigation & trial & the fact that no criminal charges were filled (let alone local or federal hate crime charges) indicates exactly the opposite. As another poster has already stated on here... if they were white students they would have been instantly removed from campus & charged with a miriad of charges.

Amateur Tawana Brawleys. With finals coming up and term papers due, the "KKK took my term paper and used for kindling to light the cross" excuse would bend any leftist professor's bleeding heart into adding a few extra points to a final grade. It could even provide the subject an African American Studies grad student's dissertation for next semester.

Apparently the graffiti must've praised Strom Thurmond's presidential platform in 1948.

Another attempt to shore up the race card.

Just how does the "legacy of slavery" justify this, I wonder?
FReepers (and others) should watch as this develops. Will Ole Miss uphold the concept of moral responsibility and equality before its rules, or will it bend to political correctness and exculpate the offenders on some pretext of victimization?

If white students did this, they would be expelled. How about charged under a Federal Hate Crime Law!
Under 18 U.S.C. Sec. 245, the government must prove both that the crime occurred because of a person's membership in a designated group and because the victim was engaged in certain specified Federally protected activities - such as serving on a jury or attending public school.
