A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 12/11/02

President Bush began his day with a phone call to Danish Prime Minister Rasmussen. He also had his daily intelligence and FBI briefings before he met with Secretary of Agriculture and the Secretary of Interior and the Chairman of his Council on Environmental Quality to announce a new initiative to reduce the threat of wildfire in the western states. Oh, and Bush taped an interview with Barbara Walters that will air on 20/20 Friday night. During that interview, the President said he would support a voluntary vaccination against small pox. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

And you had to chose between Pica and Elite type on your manual typewriter, and use carbon paper if you wanted a copy, right?

Now those were the days!

btw, Nixon was the first President I voted for........I actually campaigned for him, and shook his hand! .......I was thrilled at the time :o\

Daughter-child was born in '72 and did not get the smallpox innoculation. I questioned the doc about it (when she was a year old and hadn't gotten it yet) and he said they'd just quit giving it. I was leery and kind of pushed him on it. He said that he could get some of the vaccine but it would be quite expensive (several hundred $, which was a LOT of money back then ....... the cost of the doctor visit was something like $10) and there was far greater risk at that time of reacting to the shot than there was of catching smallpox.

I'm not sure exactly when the cut off was but I know that kids born in 72 were not given the shot and it had just been dropped from the regimen recently.

I remember I LIKE IKE buttons and signs, but I still have my Nixon/Lodge button and my "If I were 21, I'd vote for Barry" button too!

Does that make me old, too?! :o)

Funny you should mention mimeographs! We (as a family) were talking about it the other day.

Our school system is in a blue collar district, and had some school levy/financial trouble back in the 80's, and our older kids still had mimeographed copies in elementary school because they couldn't afford to get many computers or a Xerox machine!

Man, I loved the smell of those things! It made me want to be a teacher! LOL!

(I did become a teacher, but the mimeograph machines had nothing to do with my decision!)

I'm not sure when the cut off date was. I think it was like in 72 or 73.

Well then I must have gotten it .. because if I recall it was require before starting school

I don't have a scar so I wasn't sure

If you don't have a scar, you probably didn't get a vaccination. I think everyone scarred from it.

It doesn't matter though, because the old immunizations aren't effective any more anyway, and to be immune, we have to get them over again.

btw, you're welcome for the photos! I have a zillion more, but didn't want to be greedy! :o)

They showed the Barney cam on TV a short while ago. It was too cute. Laura was at Children's Hospital in DC celebrating Christmas with Barney !!! The child who was shot by the sniper in DC was sitting with her. She leaned over and told him she is glad he is getting well. One of the kids asked if our W is a good dancer. She said, No, not really, but they did dance at one of the Christmas parties recently, for a short time. LOL Another asked if Laura and W rode horses at the ranch. She said no, the President is what is called a "windshield cowboy", one who rides around the ranch in a pick-up truck. Laura said she has her own pick-up truck and that is the only driving she does - at the ranch.

Someone asked if Laura had super hero powers, which power would she like to have. She said she'd like to have the power to make everyone well. Then she asked him what power he'd like to have, he said he'd like to be able to fly. Laura agreed that that would be a nice power to have. One child asked if Santa got confused coming to the White House. Laura said they were lucky to have lots of chimneys at the White House.

The Barney cam is up on the whitehouse.gov site she said. What an absolutely lovely person our Laura is. I hope they show it again and again. It was wonderful.
