After a fiery speech by Thurmond at a Mississippi campaign rally for Ronald Reagan in November 1980, Lott, then a congressman, told a crowd in Jackson: "You know, if we had elected this man 30 years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today."

I propose that all the senators who supported this resolution step down for embracing segregation, racism and a Dixiecrat.

In 1980 we were in a helluva mess thanks to the man who accepted the Nobel Peace Prize today

Maybe we should remind them

I saw a documentary on Carter a few weeks back .. I never knew he had a 25% approval rating by the American people ..

And that was BEFORE the Iran Hostage Crisis

What makes you think Lott will be willing to stay in his seat after he loses the leadership? He will not. You're talking about giving Daschle leadership of the Senate again.

I think the point is that Lott said the same thing about Thurmond at the Reagan rally. He didn't say it about Reagan. If he really did say it twice, then the excuse of it was just a kind thing to say to an old man at his party, loses it validity.

He keeps the seat, but he quits leadership.

How does he do that? If he steps down, it's a tacit admisssion that he is a racist and a segregationist and I, for one, will be calling for him to resign because of that.

Bull. We MUST NOT spend the rest of our political lives always afraid of who is going to bolt. If they are going to leave, let them leave. We will just win it back. Jeffords giving the Senate to the Rats was a MAJOR factor in getting Republicans to the polls this November. We cannot live in fear of traitors.

Yeah, the way all the people on this forum pile on when what Lott was doing was endorsing Reagan -- what was wrong with that? -- is pathetic.

¿Se habla Ingles, señor aristeides?

He was commenting on how America should have voted for STROM THURMOND, after the man gave a speech.

"Anyone want to make a list of all the stupid things the Dems have said?? "

The only problem being no major media outlet will cover such a list.

"Lott might be toast and we'll replace him with Don Nickles. Bwaahaahaaa! The dems are much better off with Mr. Milquetoast as the majority leader."

Which is precisely why Tom Daschle has come to Lott's support...

This is going to be harder to spin away...he's going to have to be thrown overboard - otherwise we can never and I repeat, never, call the democrats on anything ever again. Not any of Clinton's crimes, past, present, or future. Not anything at all.

I see, now that it has been pointed out to me, that Drudge's English is ambiguous. Are you saying that it is unambiguous? Do you speak English?
