After a fiery speech by Thurmond at a Mississippi campaign rally for Ronald Reagan in November 1980, Lott, then a congressman, told a crowd in Jackson: "You know, if we had elected this man 30 years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today."

Ruh-roh! looks like Lott might be toast and we'll replace him with Don Nickles. Bwaahaahaaa! The dems are much better off with Mr. Milquetoast as the majority leader.

"You know, if we had elected this man 30 years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today." I'm not a Lott defender. Don't even like him much. But I still have failed to see where there's a connection to segregation. (Was Thurmond a Democrat or Republican before he ran as a Dixiecrat?) Leap, yes; connect, no.
In 1980 we were in a helluva mess thanks to the man who accepted the Nobel Peace Prize today.

Or another title:How the internet can turn a 24-36 hour story into a major news event.

So what?
You need to get real. We cant have the Majority leader taking a pounding daily over this. We cant do anything if we cant win elections, and Lott is not helping. He should go for the good of the Party.
Free speech is one thing, being a STUPID IDIOT is another.

RUH ROH Lott is a Jerk!

Read Post #8. There's nothing pathetic about Matt Drudge; we loved him when he was giving us all the dirt on the Clintons, and he is still the same Matt Drudge.

Are you bothered by the apparent lack of originality, or the actual content and context of his statement? Gee, Lott must go...try some WD-40 on the squeaky joints in your hampster wheel of a brain.

Ask the house managers what they think of Lott - Henry Hyde, Bob BarrBob Barr?
If you're using Bob Barr to accuse Trent Lott of racism, that's the pot calling the kettle black!

Drudge is pathetic and a loser.Like all his stuiff, it's "headline grabbing looking for traction" non stories. This is a non story.
To: habs4ever
Yeah, the way all the people on this forum pile on when what Lott was doing was endorsing Reagan -- what was wrong with that? -- is pathetic.
To: habs4ever
Is that a pot leaf on that flag???
To: Myrddin
Who cares. The RATS are looking for an easy way to tip the balance of the Senate back into their hands. Lott should tell them to piss off. If the RATS want his seat, they can run a candidate against him next time he is up for election. He keeps the seat, but he quits leadership.
The man is a [profanity deleted] menace.

These liberal morons don't realize they're doing us a favor. If Lott resigns as Majority Leader and keeps his seat he will be replaced by somebody a lot tougher (Frist?). That's why Daschle said he forgives Lott-he needs him to bend over in January-remember we are only one Chafee away from a 50-50 power share.
