Who cares. The RATS are looking for an easy way to tip the balance of the Senate back into their hands. Lott should tell them to piss off. If the RATS want his seat, they can run a candidate against him next time he is up for election. He keeps the seat, but he quits leadership.

He keeps the seat, but he quits leadership. How does he do that? If he steps down, it's a tacit admisssion that he is a racist and a segregationist and I, for one, will be calling for him to resign because of that.

He keeps the seat, but he quits leadership. You're naive, my friend.
If the Republicans can't keep a "racist, segregationist" in the Majority Leader role, what makes you think Sheila Jackson Lee, Elijah Cummings, and the Amen Chorus at Free Republic will allow him to stay as a measly Senator from Mississippi?
Based on your "principle," he will have to quit altogether, which will put us one Lincoln Chaffee away from the minority again.
I part company strongly with you on this, Poohbah. You really haven't thought this through. But, you're in good company, as Free Republic has turned into a pit of Maniacal Madness over the last 48 hours.
Wave some red meat in front of FReepers who are nursing grudges, and they react like mad dogs.

DITTO!!!
Getting Lott out of the Majority leader chair would be a net plus for the Republicans but he must keep his seat.
I have despised Lott ever since the inpeachment hearings and am not any more impressed with him now. But that seat of his is too important to lose.

The man is felony stupid. A different word starting with the letter F would be appropriate, but I don't want to get in trouble.
But you are right. He quits the leadership and keeps the seat until he retires in 2006. Then, we run a replacement.

Lott's toast. Sorry it had to be this way, but he should've NEVER viciously gone after the Leadership position and then rigged the Leadership process. Back to business, but only after Lott lets a leader lead.
