Hope you get another chance, and are up to confronting such nonsense.Well, I'm already a major target for the Lefties in my class... the ultra-liberal prof had a 9-11 discussion on the one-year anniversary, and it featured 20 minutes of the usual comments: "diversity is good", "the US is just as bad" (using Bhopal as an example!), and "all ideas are equally valid"... I finally had enough, and tore into them all with every bit of logic and info that frequent-FReeping demands... I still get congratulations and appreciation from the huge percentage of the class that agreed with me but didn't feel comfortable saying anything. I also get occasional thanks from soft-Lefties for letting them see the "other side" of the issue.
I was also the only one to stand up against the insipid "lessons" in my (required) Multiculturalism class for my teaching degree.

Law schools coexisted uneasily with the apprenticeship model for most of the nineteenth century. In fact, until the first years of this century, the organized bar regarded law schools with great suspicion. Thus, for example, no Justice of the United States Supreme Court appointed before the twentieth century had a law school degree. Oliver Wendell Holmes, appointed in 1902, was the first Justice to have one (James Byrnes, who read law in South Carolina, and who was appointed to the Court in 1941, was the last Justice appointed without a law degree).
The only modern justice without a law degree I can find is in Japan... Justice Kazuka Yokoo, a career health and ministry official.

Is my memory failing me or is Thomas also the Justice who stated that he couldn't wait for the court to get a 2nd amendment case in front of them that would settle the matter once and for all?
I also recall that he is pretty much pro-2nd.

Stevens is leaving? I can't believe it.

Souter voted in favor of killing babies at a hospital in New Hampshire. That makes him a baby-killer.
Sort of like how there's no evidence that Hitler ever personally killed a Jew, but nobody thinks he's less culpable for that reason.

I can think of one - but it's a bit far-fetched ...
After the rapture, there will be an open seat for the President of the U.S., which would give Hillary her chance to rule the world!!

Great news...still, if Scalia wants the job, he oughtta get it...MUD

You guys forget. Thomas is NOT a leader. The Chief's job isn't all that important compared to the votes. Gonzales is the odds-on favorite for the first slot. He won't have much trouble getting confirmed, even though he will be the swing vote.

I've met several of them--and all except Warren Burger (who was a big windbag) were very nice. Haven't met Ginsburg, but haven't heard good things about her warmth. Stevens was especially nice and extraordinarily generous in his comments to me. Scalia was cordial and witty. Thomas was very decent the one time I spoke with him (he also wrote me a very nice long personal letter once, too, in response to a short substantive note I sent him). O'Connor was pleasant enough.
For Supreme Court Justices, they are an above average group, both as people and as judges--though only Stevens, Breyer, and Scalia are wicked smart.

That is Julianne Malveau, an almost preternaturally nasty piece of work. She'd be an excellent cast as the supervillan in Bond flick, except for one thing - Bond villans are supposed to be smart.

"Not even that long I'm afraid, I think The Toon is eligible in 2008.."
I am just going to keep saying this...If that miserable woman is ever elected President, and I'll add to it, if her whore of a husband is ever placed on the Supreme Court...I AM LEAVING THE COUNTRY! I will go anywhere English is the language, I don't care if Canada goes Commie, better there than here! Ack, just thinking about this stuff makes my skull ache!

Aarrrgh... I remember it too well. Big fat Teddy K. and Joe Biden, the liar.
Anita was a paid hack to squash Thomas from the git-go.
Guess Thomas wasn't the the docile guy they wanted.

Either one would do. Which fellow is the elder? that might be an important consideration... on the one hand, seniority ought to count... on the other hand, we want this strict constructionist to last and last and last and last.

Why, because YOU say so? But if you feel so strongly about it, why don't you bring him to justice, then? I mean after all, how can you let a "baby-killer" serve in the U.S. Supreme Court. And I guess since many of us voted for the President that nominated him, does that make us baby-killers too?

Thanks, that is correct..5 years
