I am looking for a safe, conservative community for my family. I live in the middle of liberal La-la land and homeschool my children. There are some changes in our lives and I now have to work and the children need to be in schools. They are not going to be quite as supervised or protected as before and I need to provide a safe community for them. I have a gifted and talented daughter who could take college courses. I have three younger children who I need to place in good public or Christian schools. Safety and conservative culture are two major factors here. Any input from Freepers would be gratefully received.
I think Winona Lake and Goshen or Elkhart still have Christian colleges, and of course South Bend has Notre Dame [wait, maybe that is as liberal for Catholic as Valpo is for Lutherans]...
All that said, though, I am not trying to say Valpo town or school are BAD, just to kind of get it out of A list into B+.
Wheaton College in a Chicago suburb is Christian...
Valpo is a place which will destroy anything students learned from their parents.
The students I know, went there because it wasn't conservative.
"Will your Anchor hold, in the storms of life, when the Clouds unroll their Wings of Strife...When the Strong Tides Lift, When the Cables strain, Will your Anchor Drift, or will it Firm remain?"
Better live right on the campus and avoid the town, try to pretend it isn't there.
LYNCH-burg, LYNCH-burg, I think the guy for whom that word was constructed lived right near there.
The Mothman......just kidding. Couldn't resist.
BTW, how is your hubby doing? Hope all is well.
According to my brother-in-law who graduated from there, it is much more conservative than most of the schools he has been associated with.
I don't think this is anything to argue about though...
Yes, there are other Christian colleges in Northern Indiana, but Valpo is consistantly highly rated. Valparaiso is a nice, safe community as well.
And as you say the PCA is much better, but with the exception of Dr Kennedy's college in Lauderdale I could not think of a school they run; and this lady has already said she prefers a cold climate.
I myself was on the membership books for 10 yrs here at the local PCUSA church, and left those books more in sorrow than in anger when I just could NOT stomach the HQ anymore-- and I still attend it once in awhile, great people, very kind and loving Christians, and good cooks!
But I just could NOT in Christian love recommend their schools and those awful goddess-worshipping leftist professors to this lady, I just did not think I could tell her a Presby or Luth school would be right for her situation.
By the way, Jerry Falwell used to say, join the Bible believing, Born again church of your choice, but if you are in some cold Liberal mausoleum of a church that has been losing membership [PCUSA!--ed.] get OUT of there!...Then Jerry would say, "But you say, Grandma is buried in the backyard!"..."But I am here to tell you, she would leave TOO, if she only could! Get OUT of there!
"Come out of her, my people, lest ye receive of her plagues, for HER sins have reached unto heaven."
Notice it is NOT the rank and file believer in the pew who is said to have sinned, but the apostate religious institution. That is the PCUSA, IMHO.
I would recommend Cristendom College (Virginia), Thomas Aquinas College (California), or Ave Maria University (Naples, Florida). All are Conservative, Christian, and Safe. I went to the Franciscan University of Steubenville myself (Tops for moral development, but not terribly safe).
Multiracial? A truly Catholic school is the ONLY way to go. I mean, how multiracial can LDS be with the statements of Brigham Young and Joseph Smith. Mormons and the conservative Protestants lack any true intellectual history or framework. This becomes very evident in the University setting. The only problem with a Catholic University is finding one that is really Catholic. I have listed four here for you.
I agree about Christendom. Great.
Oh BTW, I have heard the Mormons are taking over the old former Southern Seminary at Buena Vista, Va. and making something really good out of that.
As you say, Mormons are all white and blond, though, with an occasional Polynesian or American Indian.
Whoever says Catholic schools are multi-racial has never seen the Seventh day Adventist ones, though, can you say, 3% versus 33%?
Because this nation guaranttees the right to association, I choose not to associate with the above people you mentioned. Your comments are well received here.
This is in far northern Alabama near Tenn. A large govt installation, NASA rockets I think, is there too.
NASA's Goddard Space Center and the Redstone military sites are both in Huntsville (along with the supporting contractors - Boeing/Lockheed/etc). Hope this helps. Stay away from Atlanta and Ashville, BTW. Neither are conservative (and Atlanta's suburbs are adversely affected by the rot in Fulton County, IMHO that is).

seemed to be in the past.
But about 1965 the money started coming in, together with the liberals and lesbians and gays, and other artsy craftsy types, and the whole place is now too rich to scoff at, but too far left to be entirely comfortable, either.
