Great--if Landrieu had to win, I wish now that it had happened in November and we'd be done with it.

Agreed. But let's look at the big picture. Go back 6 weeks, and a 51-seat GOP caucus looks pretty good.

And if the Dems come on and chortle tomorrow about how this proves they have to adopt a scorched-earth anti-Bush strategy, then the Landrieu win will prove to be a blessing, as it will lead to a hubris that will cause even greater GOP gains in 2004.

Rove obviously wasn't in charge of the economic personnel and it shows. Then again, do you really think that if 51% of the state votes for a b.s. artist like Landrieu that they are smart enough to figure out what Lindsay's job was or the schism between O'Neill's obstructionism and WH policies? Maybe they should be the next group polled over who they think should run the SEC!

I'm surprised Terrell didn't win but then again, a lot of people vote for the best looking candidate and Mary is a lot prettier than Terrell. My ex wife voted for Clinton for governor the first time he ran because "He's so cute". Like I said, my "ex wife".

Florida only had about 3,000 military votes in 2000, so I doubt they will make up the gap in LA.

Actually, I think the mistake that the Republicans made was in going for the run-off. They had a larger number of people in the original election, but with Republicans holding the Senate I tend to agree with barone.

I also think that the Republicans were still in November campaign mode, but the electorate looked at all the visits as making Landrieu an underdog.

And I am a Bush-bot, but even Rove and Bush make mistakes. Fortunately, this doesn't affect the make-up of the Senate. And Louisiana IS a traditionally democrat state, you know.

Louisiana always appears to be the holdout state for the Democrats; it was probably a mistake for the Reps to pour money into this race. The Dems win every close race in that state. Part of it is the overwhelming black vote (96% democratic); part is the heavier unionization; part is the "bohemian" aspects of New Orleans. This is a real embarrassment and takes much of the gloss off the November elections.

Actually, I think Breaux voted for Thomas, but I could stand corrected. He voted against Bork, but so did Sen. John Warner, R-VA.

Your comment is so ignorant, I don't know where to begin. First of all, the announcement of 6% unemployment needed to be addressed. Second of all, this announcement meant zilch to those who were going to the polls. Everyone going to vote today KNEW in advance who they were going to vote for. (Let's hear it for the laconic DUH meter).
