Based on the election results it would appear that the much hyped Louisanna democrats masking as devout Catholics have a profound disagreement with the church based--so much so that Landreau trumps the Pope.

Ouch - half of Orleans parish remains to come in, with Mary L holding a 5:1 lead (44,188 to 9510).

Jefferson parish has 0 of 261 precincts (what's French for "precinct"?) reporting. Two other parishes are non-reporting as well.

"According to complete but unofficial returns, Terrell had 30,568 Lafayette votes, or 59 percent. Landrieu had 21,144 votes, or 41 percent. The size of Terrell’s lead makes it likely that her campaign here, which included an appearance by Vice President Dick Cheney on Nov. 18 at Lafayette’s City Club, lured Democratic votes away from Landrieu.

Statewide, Landriue had a 52-48 lead with about 70 percent of the state’s precincts reporting, according to The Associated Press.

Terrell, the Louisiana elections commissioner, had a big edge in absentee votes in Lafayette Parish. She won 2,051, or 77.4 percent, to 598, or 22.6 percent, for Landrieu."
