Bush praises Islam for its 'morality'
Washington Times ^ | 12/06/02 | Bill Sammon

President Bush yesterday removed his shoes, entered a mosque and praised Islam for inspiring "countless individuals to lead lives of honesty, integrity, and morality."

For the second time since the September 11 terrorist attacks, the president yesterday visited Washington's oldest mosque, the Islamic Center, where Muslims from 75 nations gather to worship. Mr. Bush marked the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan by praising Islam as a hopeful religion of mercy and tolerance.

"Islam affirms God's justice and insists on man's moral responsibility," said the president, flanked by a half-dozen imams. "Islam gave birth to a rich civilization of learning that has benefited mankind."

The overture to Muslims came four days after religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Mr. Bush "ignores history" by not acknowledging that Islam is "violent at its core."

Gorby and Russia were one entity. The muslim nations are tens of nations, right?
What may help work for the world eventually is that they are tribal and will go after each other again at some point and that would end their desire to attack the free-world.

Re: Reading the Koran. Of course there are lots of bad stuff in there. Ever read the Bible? Lots of bad stuff there too. For example, one famous Psalm (by the rivers of Babylon we wept) ends with praise for those who bash the head of the infants of their enemies on stones.

I have known many Muslims, both here, and in Africa. My husband worked with the Moros in the Philippines. As a whole they are solid, moral people...some of the Moros are quite vicious against their enemies, but so are Texans

President Bush passed up a major opportunity to challenge Muslims to clean up their own house. More's the pity and the one thing Islam did not need is flattering praise of a morality it does not possess. Pat Robertson is right and President Bush should have told those at the mosque its time for Islam to begin its own Reformation and demonstrate to the rest of the world its truly civilized, tolerant, and peaceful.

When abortion clinics were being bombed, some people were more than happy to blame the "Far Right" or the Religous Right.

It's quite possible for the sake of argument that most Islamists wouldn't pull a 9/11 in the same way that most Christians wouldn't bomb a clinic. The difference? Pastors from churches all across the country (e.g. Southern Baptists) informed their congregations that this was a Bad Thing.

We're not hearing Moslems correcting their fellow man. Either this terrorism is in their list of valid beliefs, a lot of imams are fearing for their lives, or this correction that they should be offering hasn't been translated into English yet, because the only person I've heard saying Islam is a religion of peace is W.

The big difference (other than the Koran reading like it was written by a sick child) is that in the REAL word of God, God calls for the crushing of certain miscreants in certain specific cases, while the Koran calls for the universal oppression or murder of EVERYONE who will not convert to iSLAM. It also says that telling lies is just fine if you tell them to Christians or Jews.

My favorite exemplary quote from the Korap: "Your woman is your dirt; cultivate her."

I'm telling you, you should read it. There is no moral equivalence between that ugly book and the word of God.

People will remember what Bush has said and done next voting time. We need oil, but we need it so badly that we will tell such lies?

The bible does not ask people to sin, but the Koran does, and that is the basic difference. The bible shows examples of people in the past, even the evil ones, but it does not suggest that you follow that path. I used to wonder why God had whole groups of people removed, and now I think that I know. Some people are so ingrained with hatred, that I think there may be no hope for them, and the world is better off without them, for God knows they will never repent.

I haven't read this thread yet,but I can't wait to see how the fundie Bush-Bots react to this. They and the lonely women who lust after him (sometimes the same people) are his most rabid supporters.

Bush is supposed to be a Christian.

Race, like Bubba-1 and Goober Gore,he is whatever he has to be to get votes and stay in power. People on FR keep being surprised because he "caves" to the Dims on a principle, yet they fail to recogonize he doesn't HAVE any principals. It's all a game to fool the yokels. I'm really surprised that you haven't figured this out before.
