I'm speachless. Flash bang grenades and an armored vehicle moving down the screen to bust some people with pot residue in pipes? I suppose they have to justify their existance somehow.

Ah yes, those pot smokers are a national security threat, but the illegals crossing the border can just come on through and we'll even give them amnesty. WOD = tyranny! The American founders would have revolted at this cr*p.

"We rely on the element of surprise and speed," Kind of like the Spanish Inquisition.

"As far as drug investigations go, some are more fruitful than others," Turner said. And some are more justified than others.

WOD = tyranny! The American founders would have revolted at this cr*p.True enough but the majority of Americans have no problem with it. And it isn't as though they don't know what goes on. On one of the TV cop shows a SWAT team member was all smiles as he told how he loved the early morning raids because they were more likely to find people naked in bed. He just loved that.
The problem is people think it can't happen to them, until it happens to them.

The tactics used by most agencies have been upheld in court, he said. Well then, it must be ok. (/sarcasm)

"Neither Monroe nor Davage have any kind of criminal history in Oregon, and no one living at the house had a conviction for a violent crime within the state, court records show."
I think this was more than a little overkill. The armoured vehicle was tank-sized and this is a densely populated neighborhood.I could see the police justifying these tactics for a major narcotics lab.Boys will play with their toys it seems.

The TV cop shows have played a significant role in glorifying this type of raid and in the public's acceptance of this type of tactic."Cops" did a long run in the Pacific NW several years ago,and alot of the raids they showed were pot growers and other druggies.

"We rely on the element of surprise and speed," Swenson said. "The third element is an overwhelming display of force when you come through the door. "And a nice black uniform. and a fanatical devotion to the Pope"

If I was the Judge that authorized this search warrant, someone's ass would be in a sling. Where is the probable cause?

But all tactical exercises are fun.I enjoy a good run around with 2-way radios myself, but this is real overkill. What a waste of taxpayer money.

"Police pulled four people - including a nude woman and another woman wearing only underpants and a T-shirt..."
Caption this photograph? Where's the pictures?

This type of display will likely cost them as the next time they ask for tax increases for more "public safety" funds, people remember stuff like this. There was also an incident about a year ago where this SWAT team raided a family's home looking for an armed subject who was not there and ended up shooting an ambulance.I don't deny a need for police, but there is lots of keystone cops action that needs to stop.

police discovered several high-powered fans, fluorescent lights, plastic sheeting, timers, potting soil, fertilizer, plant food, sandwich bags, a scale, 24 electrical outlets and a shop vacuum that contained a trace of marijuana leavesI have all of this stuff in my barn, (yes, probably even the trace of marijuana, the stuff grows wild in my pasture), I sure hope they dont come to bust my (totally legal) nursery.

I'm speachless. Flash bang grenades and an armored vehicle moving down the screen to bust some people with pot residue in pipes? I suppose they have to justify their existance somehow."In another recent case, officers found 162 marijuana plants - along with 51 guns, including assault rifles, revolvers, shotguns, old military weapons and dozens of magazines loaded with live ammunition - while serving a drug-related search warrant at a Fall Creek house in January 2001."
Sounds like a risky neighborhood for a cop or your kid. Personally, I think marijuana should be legalized. I hate pot heads, they are just as dangerous as any other doper. I have seen plenty of pot related violence.
The marijuana dealers are just as much a danger to your children as any other druggie. I don't have children, but if you do or plan to, consider letting your teenage daughter hang out with that crowd. I don't like the creeps...
