Rush Limbaugh & Vietnam
Self ^ | n/a | Self

Posted on 12/04/2002 11:33:37 AM PST by OldCorps

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh a while ago and some liberal fool came on and said that Sen. John Kerry had "gravitas" (gag me, I'm so tired of that overused word) because he signed up for service with ___ Pershing and the guy who founded FEDEX. How does that give Sen. Kerry gravitas? It seems to me this vignette shows he (Sen. Kerry) is just a spoiled rich boy.

Then the liberal came up and mentioned Rush's being a draft dodger.

There are lots of conditions that the military will treat you for if you are already in, but will not accept you as a recruit...

You explained that much better than I did.

Would a true patriot not get the procedure done himself? Just a thought.

What about volunteered for draft, non-combat duty in 'Nam?

Lots of flavors available.

It's a strange but true fact that Rush got out of serving in Vietnam because of (hold your hat), an anal cyst.

I didn't know James Carvelle was even around back then.....

why “buy” one with a medical condition the military would become responsible to treat.

Exactly. Try to enlist with a mouth full of bad teeth and you will see this in action. If your teeth get screwed up after you are already in then they have to fix them.

And you speak for your self-alone. This former Marine doesn’t give a rat's a** weather he served or not. What I DO care about is weather someone supports the PROPER use of the military in the defense of this nation and its interests. Rush does.

You got it.

couldn't agree with you more, JS, a truly execrable comment from sinkspur. Limbaugh skipped Vietnam because of an operable cyst

What when did you check out Rush's anus? What were you doing there?

Did I say anything about supporting Kerry because of his military record? I just wanted to point out that unlike some Democrat politicians of our acquaintance, John Kerry did not sit his tour out in a Saigon hotel. His military service and his courage in battle have nothing to do with his political beliefs.

It also should be noted that Kerry stated that in an anti-war demonstration in 1970, I beleive, that he threw his medals over the White House fence in protest.

Those medals were somebody elses. His medals are now hanging in his Senate office.

Kerry is not as pure as the wind driven snow, either.

For whatever reason, there seems to be a reluctance to, at least, opine on calling a spade a spade.

Not only did Rush not serve in Vietnam but he did not even bother to vote for President Reagan.

I've never heard of this. Is it true? Did Rush avoid military service?

Rush hotly denied this on his show -- called it "Internet BS." I believe Rush.

You guys with your "chickenhawk" label are chicken-****.

Exactly. By the "chickenhawk" logic, no one who has not had an abortion should have a view on the abortion issue. That means that no male members of congress, except Barney Frank, should have a vote on abortion.

"What when did you check out Rush's anus? What were you doing there?"

He may have been trying to hide from that breakem dude. He actually was hanging on to trees, sans tail, and throwing feces on anyone cutting through his back yard, on their way to the young republicans' club. Hey I kid you not. See above posts.

Anyone with any sense tried to avoid combat. Could be done in a variety of ways.
Join National Guard
Enroll in College
Barring either of those, join the branch of service least likely to put you in harms way. Ie....Airforce.......Navy.

I served in the Army 1957 to 60, joined the Navy in 63, served three tours on Yankee Station, and decided I would be happier as a civilian. I woud have certainly died in defence of my country, but I felt no compunction to be a sacrificial lamb. Not only that anyone with common sense passed on info that would offer the best chance of survival.

Answer the call, just don't be anxious to die, but if called upon, then serve with honor. The only ones I consider draft dodgers are the ones that fled the coutry.

If he wanted to enlist, sure, he could have fixed it. Not enlisting isn't the same as avoiding service.

And assuming I'm right that this was in the 70-71 time frame, his draft board would have called him back in 6 mo or a year later (I assume these thinks don't always last forever).

Wonder if he's lurking here, laughing his cyst off?

Sorry to put words in your mouth. I started out wanting to respond to the idea that Kerry's service makes him immune to the charge that he is a spoiled rich guy then I went off on a tangent & started speaking to points you did not make.

Guess I was guilty of a little non-sequitur myself.
