Attacks close to the US embassy: rockets of military origin (armed)
Wednesday December 04, 2002 - 3h30 GMT
BOGOTA, 3 déc (AFP) - Several of the rockets fallen close from the embassy to the United States in Bogota on November 22, with an assessment of two wounded, were of military manufacture, one learned Tuesday near the army.
The explosive machines, of gauge 60 mm, had been launched one away kilometer by a tube rocket launcher, found in the enclosure of the national university with two other intact rockets.
"Manufactured by military national industry (INDUMIL), several of these rockets were the property of units of the army", indicated the General Carlos Ospina, ordering Army.
An investigation was opened by the staff to find the persons in charge for this diversion of military material, it added. A dozen supposed suspects were already apprehended.
Similar to the attack with the rocket against the presidential palate of the capital on August 7, which had made 21 died during the ceremony of nomination of president Alvaro Uribe, this attack with the rocket had been also carried out, according to the authorities, by the revolutionary Forces armed with Colombia (FARC, Marxists), principal guerrilla with 17.000 men.
The investigation into this offensive against the head of the State had however shown the use by the rebels of rockets of artisanal origin, and nonmilitary.
The national university, permanent hearth of agitation, was closed last Thursday for the ends of the investigation and should reopen only Wednesday.
These revelations were made public at the moment when arrived to Bogota, for a stay of less than 24 hours, the American Secretary of State Colin Powell. It will have talks Thursday with Alvaro Uribe, the Minister for Defense, Martha Lucia Ramirez, and will go to the American embassy.
The FARC require the immediate withdrawal of the US military mission in Colombia
Wednesday December 04, 2002 - 4h49 GMT
BOGOTA, 3 déc (AFP) - the guerrilla of the FARC "requires the immediate withdrawal of the American military mission in Colombia", shown "to violate his sovereignty", in a text published Tuesday evening on his Internet site.
Signed by Raul Reyes, spokesman of the revolutionary Forces armed with Colombia (FARC, Marxists), principal guerrilla with 17.000 men, this text is proposed with the approval of XIème forum of Sao Paulo, joined together Monday at Wednesday in Antigua (Guatemala).
This requirement is made public at the moment when has just arrived to Bogota, for a stay of less than 24 hours, the American Secretary of State Colin Powell, in order to give the support of Washington to president Alvaro Uribe in his fight against the guerrilla and the traffic of drug.
The FARC show in the same text the high commissioner with peace, Luis Carlos Restrepo, "to lie in Colombia", in "an agreement against nature with UNO", in connection with the search for a dialogue with the rebels.
In one précedent communicated published Monday, the FARC had taxed the "paramilitary" government with president Alvaro Uribe of "total disinterest" vis-a-vis a possible exchange of prisoners ".
800 civil, 23 policies whose Ingrid Betancourt, former candidate of the Greens to the presidency, and 47 officers of the army are hostages of the FARC in the jungle of the country. Three hundred rebels purge prison sentences in Colombia.
The new document of the FARC reiterates their old requirement of a demilitarized zone of some 115.000 km2, that is to say the equivalent of England, in the departments of Putumayo and Narino, to start there a new dialogue of peace, and critical the European Union (UE) to have included them, "under the pressure of the American government", in the list of the terrorist organizations last July.
The civil war in Colombia made more than 200.000 died since 1964, with an average of 3.000 removals of civil per annum, and 2,7 million people moved by violence.
Bullseye. The SinkMeister was very popular in Cartagena during his reign of slime - you could see pictures of the scumbag all over town from his periodic visits. But that's because Cartagena and Barranquilla had been left alone by the FARC by tacit agreement. When bombs start going off in these coastal tourist cities - it'll knock quite a few of these portraits down off their wall-mounts, as these residents realize that the deal with the devil is up.
Seems the "pro-drug" group once again comes out of the woodwork.
Ya' know, I'm beginning to think they have a point. Why not let all those intent on chemically altering themselves into oblivion do so? It could be a great study in natural selection. In two or three generations "poof" no drug problem...
This is one of the most ignorant statements I've ever seen on Free Republic. People have been using various drugs since there have been people. There hasn't been a "poof" yet, and there never will be. Know why?
Hint: It has to do with the fact that most people aren't suicidally self-destructive.
