Ever notice most babies are rather ugly and do bad things? Then they GROW UP into handsome young gentlemen and ladies.
FR is exactly that. We should worry when FR starts into old age. Until then, this is a waste of time by naysayers.
Many here are eloquently misguided. I like these. Reminds me of Franklin's comment,
He was naturally more eloquent, had a ready plenty of words, and sometimes, as I thought, bore me down more by his fluency than by the strength of his reason."The very stuff of great sophism! Franklin also said it's easier to convince with flattery than insult. You might next time try painting with prettier language.
Too bad you give us not even that. I've made some damned fine wrong expressions. The least we can have here is something worth listening to. Anything, right or wrong, but make it worth the while.
If you want, I'll give you a pretty phrase on behalf of whatever cause you choose. Give it a try. But you gotta let me know what the hell you're trying to say.
After the election in 2000 FR other than celebrating went into the big snooze.
It woke up long enough for the 2002 elections and promptly went back to sleep.
Read the welcome on the main page. FR is not just about electing republicans.
Instead of party or personalities we should be looking at issues. We sure have enough of them. We should be every bit as vigilant of any laws, programs and executive orders under republicans as we are under democrats. We should be every bit as critical under republicans as we are under democrats.
What FR does best it isn't doing now. All because "or side" won, all is well.
FR needs to wake up. The republicans are in charge and in large part what needs to be done is not getting done. No more excuses. Government continues to grow, more programs are passed into law, the Constitution continues to be trashed.
Where is the voices that spoke so vehemently before 2000?
Sleep well. There will be a rude awakening.

A handful of former FReepers seemed to feel FR was their private domain. Indeed, they voiced undying devotion to the site until they were asked to ahere to the rules then they couldn't leave fast enough or worse yet challenged or argued the rules didn't or shouldn't apply to them. Some, like Mr Maggio, have the audacity to tell Mr Robinson and the rest of us how we must conduct ourselves. My mother used to say when I had my own home I could run it however I saw fit, but as long as I lived under her roof she ruled. Likewise, several years ago after Willie Nelson bought a golf course a reporter asked him what was par. Willie said, "It's anything I say it is, it's my golf course."
If Mr Maggio or any other disgruntled FReepers want a site without rules and are willing to provide the financial, legal and emotional support required for a successful site then do it. But please don't whine when the lawsuits pile up.
Gotta tell you, I'm more than sick and tired of pissant whiners who decide to attack FR every time something doesn't go their way. Good God in Heaven, if that's the kind of people they are, I don't need them and I don't want them on "my side".
I need street fighters, not crybaby pantywaists.
The author is either a liar, or hopelessly out of his depth. I have found that one of the most frequently discussed topics on Free Republic is the cancer of RINOs, who by definition are "Republican".
"Dissidents", "JimBob", protesting too much that "Bush is not God", etc.... I don't know what this author is up to, but I don't like the smell.
At the very top of the page resides a Confederate battle flag and the tagline "Published in Occupied Confederate Territory." So the site owner just can't get past that Civil War thing, eh? OK, let's move on ...
Ah, here's three prominent links to various weather services, two of them (NWS and NOAA) US government agencies. Various articles within the website excoriate the federal government, paying taxes, et al., while happily pirating the services of that selfsame evuuuull big government. Slightly hypocritical, but that's life in the big city. Let's continue ...
Here's a red link on the left side of the page, flogging a book called "Unintended Consequences" by one John Ross. As most of you will probably remember, John Ross was an unsuccessful Democrat candidate for the Missouri House who was spanked by Jim Talent. Rut-roh, that couldn't be good ...
Oh, here's another ad, for a tome called "Civil War II" by Thomas W. Chittum. Mr. Chittum is an otherwise irrelevant and sad little man who urges his readers to "pee on the imperial American rag flag" rather than salute it. Oh, and even better? Messr. Chittum keeps some interesting company - his spittle-flecked polemic can be found at a web site called "www.churchfliers.com," which is apparently the house organ for a particularly revolting little band known as "The World Church of the Creator" (part of "the JOOZ have tails" crowd). Tsk tsk tsk ...
Lookie lookie, here's another interesting little link. "Gulf War Anti-White Racism Notting Hill London UK" . This one takes you eventually to this web site, a virtual repository for the British equivalent of the racist Deliverance crowd (at least two teeth per mouth, no waiting).
Yuck.
Ain't it amazing what a few minute's web surfing can turn up about "source material"? Now I need to go take a shower and burn my clothes - I'll never get the stench out.
