President Bush finds himself in a rare disagreement with conservatives in his party over his efforts to portray Islam as a peaceful religion that is not responsible for anti-American terrorism.

In a score of speeches since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the president has called for tolerance of Muslims, describing Islam as "a faith based upon peace and love and compassion" and a religion committed to "morality and learning and tolerance."

Yes, I believe this is war and the Bill of Rights are being bent to carefully investigate every muslum in the US.

Okay, well you (along with like minded types as in #200) go ahead and advocate "careful bending" of the Constitution whenever it suits your needs.

Personally I think it's dangerous and once you go down this road, then none of us is immune.

Also, if Jesus had wanted the disciples to avenge His death, I guess they spent the whole rest of their lives in disobedience, because they became preachers and later martyrs for the cause, NOT soldiers.

In a time of war, the "enemy" is always made out to be a monolithic beast. "Japs", "Krauts", and now the various incarnations of the spellings of "Muslims". That's the nature of psyching up "for the kill".

 

It isn't claimed to be an original or mature stance.

 

My point, originally, was my eye-rolling ennui at the steaming pile of Barbra Streisand that Mr. Hooper unloaded. He is either the most selective dispenser of outrage ever seen, or an out and out liar. Either way he disgusts me, his statements irritate me and his organization is poised to become the Rainbow/SHOVE of the 21st century. Just what a new millennium needed.

I'm sure in private that Bush is saying just what other conservatives say about Islam.
The reason in public he calls it peacefull is that he can then go after the bad folks a bit at a time.
Claim it is "all" evil and he has to take it "all" on at once.

The voice of a true liberal. Look for the exception, not the rule. During WWII churches in the US divorced themselves from Germany. Not one MUSLIM GROUP HAS SPOKEN UP AGAINST THIS HATE, OR DENOUNCED THE KORAN FOR ITS HATE PASSAGES. JERRY FALWELL IS RIGHT.

As I said there are and have been many acts of violence that the left would like to lay at the feet of Christianity, Conservatism and Judaism.
