Death of American Twins, Liberty and Freedom
Self

Posted on 11/25/2002 3:27:05 PM PST by Old philosopher

Today, November 25, 2002, with the signature of George W. Bush creating the Department of Homeland Security, a milestone in the History of our great country was marked by the death of the Twin Pillars of our society, Freedom and Liberty.

The fight to keep alive these two foundations of our Nation has been a long and arduous one. The mercilous attacks on them have come from politicians on both sides of the aisle in their ever continuing grab for more and more power. Regardless of popular support for the twins, the political class has long sought to bring about their demise. In a "Bi-Partisan" effort both houses of Congress have voted to destroy the most important rights of the People, only a very few of the Congress opposed the death of these important twins.

Those of us who have known these twins for a long time will be very much saddened by their death, and those who have only known them briefly will soon learn how important they were to the Welfare and Security of our Great Country. With the death of Liberty and Freedom it will only be a short time until the Populace of this country will be living under a Dictatorship, controlled by an "Elite" class of politicians who will dictate every facet of our lives.

Requiem In Pacet!

Yep, they are a sickening bunch. - No matter what the issue at FR, they back the big government, PC-RINO solution.
As a founder said:

"There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that authorizes the federal government to wage war against the citizens of the United States, no matter how well-meaning the intent. The Bill of Rights means just as much today, as it did on the day it was written. And its protections are just as valid and just as important to freedom today, as they were to our Founders two hundred years ago." _________________________________

If you look at the history of this country, it is obvious, there was more freedom at the beginning than there is now

The slaves might have disagreed.

Well, I hit the "abuse" button on one of them.

Obnoxious doesn't begin to describe them. I had heard of the viciousness of the 'bots, but this is the first time i had really seen it up close and personal. 'Pod

Nah. The quote wasn't that memorable.

Oh, but it was.

Did you hit your head as a kid?

Listen up, stinkspur.

The original poster expressed some legitimate concerns that many have in a manner which was not suggestive of any spite of country, which some of you ARE strongly suggesting was his motive. Not only that, but now you are using crass invective and calling this person names because you don't care for his views about things. What next would you do if he stayed and stood his ground which, so far at least, is his birthright as an American? Be he right or wrong in my estimation, I'll be there defending his position to speak his mind on the matter. I might do the same for you as well if your attitude was different.

It's typical behavior with any of them at any time.
Click on their recent posts, and the main subject from ANY of them is bashing their fellow freepers. - I bash them back, so I'm equally guilty, in their eyes at least.
Mea Culpa.

As I thought, you can't recite one liberty that has been abrogated by the Department of Homeland Security.

Buying goods. The feds seldom interfere with what specific items anyone wants to buy. Selling goods. The feds seldom care about what you want to sell. Travel. The feds seldom care about where and when you travel. Marriage. The feds seldom care about who you marry. Where you live. The feds seldom care about where you choose to freely live. What you write. The feds seldom care about what you write. Web pages. The feds seldom care about what you post online. What you say. The feds seldom care about the things that you say. What you worship. The feds seldom interfere inside churches (Waco being a major exception under Clinton). What part of the free market do you CLAIM is no longer free? Since when did the government control your sales and purchases in either quantity or quality?

The Feds seldom......LOL. Aren't we easily pleased. Repeat after me baaaah, baaaah, baaah.

I am shocked and dismayed at the treatment, the personal treatment that you received here on this thread.

No doubt.

I started paying attention to US politics when I got online during the first Clinton term. The in-your-face corruption, idiocy and group think nastiness of the communist Democrats, and the fact that it was grass roots Republicans and conservatives exposing that stuff had me fooled for just a little while that there really was common cause for freedom...

"Sure, maybe some of them want to sacrifice me to their god for smoking dope, but on the other hand, they do seem to understand that Clinton is scum, and what gun laws and racial quotas are about..."

Live and learn ;)

Good post!!

Pay no attention to all the idiots who will attack you personally. The more that ANYONE questions the government...and worries about the future of our Nation...the faster they arrive...with all the personal attacks.

Thank You for your service in defense of our Nation.....it took courage and devotion.

Something that so many here lack.

"And this shrinks government HOW?"

Neither the Republicans or the Democrats really WANT to shrink government......which is obvious since neither party has even tried.

Nope..we haven't lost any Liberties......

We STILL have the Right to Privacy....just ignore all the camera's...and ignore the fact that the Government knows just about everything about you.

We STILL have the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.....just as long as you follow all the rules...and make sure that everyone in Government KNOWS what you own and where it is. (..and for heaven's sake...never even try and buy an 'Assault Rifle'....whatever THAT is )

We STILL have the Right to Peacefully Assemble...just pay no attention to the government agents taking your picture....or jotting down your license plate #....and NEVER...ever....assemble on Forest Service land ( or BLM etc)....or they may threaten you with a Lawsuit.

Nope...we have NOT lost any Freedoms.

Just ask the Government....

On a more serious note though. There are 2 issues here. The first is the Patriot Act and the second the Homeland Security Agency. If you will remember, right after 911 Bush signed an executive order that pretty much had all of the provisions of the PA in it. There was a storm of protest from the same opponents about the EO in lieu of congressional legislation. I have said all along that the EO was the right way to go. It accomplished the same thing and Bush could rescind it at any time that he saw fit. Given the circumstances of 911 he was well within his constitutional powers as CIC to issue such an order. Now we have congressional bill that is on the books forever until or unless congress repeals it or it is overturned in the courts. The HSA on the other hand is much more benign and does not create new law. The "super database" is not a part of the HSA and the HSA killed both TIPS and National ID's. The Patriot Act is, if placed in the wrong hands, the most susceptible to abuse. Had it remained an EO then Bush could have voided it on his last day in office and his successor would have to justify and be accountable for their own EO if they wished to retain it.
