CNN: Groove Yard of the Terminally Hip-Hop?
The National Enquirer ^ | Dec 03, 2002 issue | staff writer

Posted on 11/25/2002 6:01:07 AM PST by yankeedame

CNN is gettin' jiggy wit' it! The normally reserved "Headline News" recently released an internal memo telling staffers to start adding hip-hop lingo to its news crawls.

"In an effort to be sure we are as cutting edge as possible with our on-screen persona, please refer to this slang dictionary when looking for just the right phrase," says the memo.

It was accompanied by a dictionary of slang that included terms like "jimmy hat" for condom and "fly" for sexually attractive.

No word if old-school James Earl Jones and his voice-overs will be replaced by his more "crump cuz" Ludacris.

So check out...or as CNN might now say, "Ay yo trip!"

Depends on the usage. 'Crunk-ED out' would be fine. Make sure it's "crunk" would be the correct usage in that case.

I know some FReepers find it repugnant, but I enjoy some hip hop and rap, and find much of the slang very colorful and amusing.

For instance, it's much more fun to say "yo, you read' to stab out?" than to ask(assuming the appropriate company) "Hey, Bob, would you be amenable to leaving this establishment and seeking a new venue for entertainment?"

Q: What's the difference between today's hip-hop lingo and "nadsat" in Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange?

A: None.
