How do you recover lost email?!!

It only "disappears" when my machine does not boot (I keep forgetting about that new invention - quill and parchment).

Go to the file

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mail

Use your "Find Files" to get there.

There will be a bunch of folders in there. Use the "Open With" command to read what is inside(open with the "Notepad" program)

You will probably find the text of most of the e-mails you thought were were gone from your system even if you emptied the deleted items folder.

Have you found your problem? If you wish to back up the registry for a day or two I can tell you how? If you have done something within in the past three days that caused the loss of the email, restoring the registry will fix it. What you really do is back up the system to a good date.

You LIKE AOHell. You've got to be kidding me. I have it and hate it. Too much bandwith to download when logging on. AOL is good if you have kids because they have all the anti adult features. I hate AOL. My husband refuses to get rid of it. We will soon be buying a new computer and trust me we will NOT have AOL. I'm standing my ground on this one.

I do know what you mean though. When you delete email, it's still stored in "Recently Deleted Mail". So a deleted email can be retrieved from there.

He said he uses WindowsXP. In his case the DBX files would be located in C:\Documents and Settings\(login name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{..big long string of characters..}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

This folder has copies of deleted mail even after it has been deleted from the deleted items folder.

It may have a slightly different name on your machine, but you can find it by using the "Find" command .

Type in Outlook express or outlook in the "Find" command

Right, I don't know how it's set up in XP but thats the general idea.

Your e-mail is not lost becasue you don't know how to delete a dbx file. I don't know where XP puts the Outlook dbx files but someone here does. You must import these files. Even this is prolly not necessary since you likely just put your mouse in the wrong place and they are still in Outlook as you see it.

Unless you did a secondary erase/revision the messages are still in the inbox file but marked so as not to be shown. The file can be accessed with a word processor .

On the right hand side is a place to type in your email address and your password.

See if you still have email there.

Why shouldn't they only track email of suspected terrorists rather than innocent freepers? Oh that's right, everybody is a suspsect according to the admin.

You have that right. I have been fighting off the storm troopers all night. They are everywhere, under my bed, hiding in the bushes, black helicopters circling my house and the chip implant is itching like crazy.
