Like FR founder Jim Robinson, Hugh is apprehensive about the damage that the "immigration reform" movement can do to the "mainstream" image of the national Republican party, and has concerns that the leftist media can distort the actions of some of the more extreme elements in the movement to make the party appear to be racist, and anti-Latino.

Such a charge could effectively crush the Bush administration's outreach program to the huge (and growing) numbers of Hispanic voters who are in this country LEGALLY, but many my most passionate conservative FRiends have chosen to force this extremely important issue into the forefront of our political discussions.

Fortunately, Michelle Malkin may be the IDEAL person to lead this charge. Like Ann Coulter, she is a young attractive woman - which should not matter in the ideal world of well-reasoned political discourse, but really DOES matter in the superficial world of "television journalism." Good looks get her in the door, and then good THINKING delivers her powerful conservative message.

As I understand it, Michelle's brief appearance on Hugh's show this Monday is a "trail balloon" of sorts, to determine if she should be on his show again in the future - perhaps even as a regular weekly guest! - so please be on your best behavior. :o)

Let us show Hugh, and Jim Robinson - and President Bush! - that there **is** room in the GOP's "big tent" for BOTH serious proponents of immigration reform AND for advocates for an expanded Hispanic outreach...

I discovered Ms. Malkin on JWR (Jewish World Review) a few years ago and was very impressed with her love of America and her passion on keeping America safe from terrorists and illegal immigrants. Like a proud mama, I've watched her star rise over the years and she is becoming a force to be reckoned with. Why? Michelle Malkin simply tells the truth.

I attended Ms Malkin’s speech, and book signing Wednesday night in Houston. She is truly an inspiration. Wait ‘till she recites the pledge the new citizens make. Your heart will sit up and take notice, until she mentions there is a move a foot for the new citizens to recite the pledge in Spanish. Put off the Christmas shopping,leave work early, or whatever. You don’t want to miss her.

IMHO, visas from ANY country where there is known to be terrorist activity deserve greater scrutiny - including the homelands of MY ancestors, in Germany and Ireland. (LOTS of dangerous kooks from BOTH of those places: Bader Meinhof, IRA, etc.)

Unfortunately the GOP is united around the notion of reintroducing amnesty-like legislation in short order. Hugh will undoubtedly continue to argue for that GOP position, but Michelle might be able to at least expose some chinks in the GOP armor for later.

As for your statement:

Please consider that besides the much mentioned obvious security risks involved with present INS policy and practice, legal immigrants are one of the most vocal groups concerned about the unfair advantages given to illegals as presently practiced and as would be enabled by any form of amnesty. How would you react knowing all your efforts to become a citizen could be circumvented by disease-ridden welfare-cheats being given amnesty without effort? Oh, yes, I don't buy the nonsense about only legitimate workers being the only ones allowed in. The amnesty apologists like to fool themselves that enforcement of laws would occur any differently than presently.

Thanks again for bringing this serious issue to the forefront, as I left Hewitt behind long ago in favor of the other competing concurrent radio show addressing "borders, language, culture." Perhaps Hugh can help the GOP and Jim Robinson get back on course.

Drop the racism, secure the borders and stop the invasion.
