The soon to be majority leader --- again --- remains on thin ice and any attempt to bring Jeffords back into the GOP fold, would make Lott an outcast. Lott's definitely not a strong Senate leader, but I don't see him being that stupid either.

There is precedent for Jeffords' stunt from an unlikely source:
Sir Winston Churchill joined the Labour party for a while when he was a back-bench MP back in the 20's or 30's. Can't remember why, but it turns out that he did come back to the Tories a few years later. Seems like this kind of treachery was not considered so odious in those days.
Of course, I still want to see Jeffords suffer for his duplicity. Hope he likes his new broom closet in the Senate office building basement.

He talked everyone into allowing Smith to come back and take over the Chairmanship after he defected so his track record is not good! 1. Senator Smith left the GOP at a time when we had a majority of two or three seats, so his leaving wouldn't change anything.
2. Senator Smith continued to caucus with the GOP so that even if the Senate had almost been tied, his leaving wouldn't have changed anything.
3. Senator Smith's voting record has been more consistently conservative and Republican than many others who are supposedly loyal party members. The wicked witches of Maine and the idiot from Rhode Island are the most obvious examples. Even when he was a nominal independent, I knew that I could count on Senator Smith's vote for what was best for America more often than I could one of these others.
4. When Senator Smith left the party, his complaint was that the party didn't stand for the great principles that it claimed. When Jeffords left the party, he attacked the very principles that have led most of us to join the GOP.
Equating Senator Smith with Jeffords just isn't right. I disagree with much of what Senator Smith has done, but he wants the best for America and generally understands the direction that we should be taking. Jeffords is just a typical liberal idiot who would destroy everything that makes this country great. That difference is good reason why Senator Smith deserved to retain his committee chair and Jeffords does not.

Thanks!:)

I don't think he is that stupid either BUT just in case, we want to make sure he understands he is on thin ice!
So hard to believe that the Senators went along with him being Majority Leader. I was told that the Chairmen have more power and he is a figurehead -- I can only hope!
To: WFTR
I didn't mean to infer that Jeffords and Smith were alike -- what I did want to say is that LOTT took the Chairmanship from Inhofe who was in line and gave it to Smith for coming back in the Party. This was all about LOTT and giving in when he didn't have to!

Bump for a Freep tomorrow.

France is far too good for him. Get out the globe and find the most miserable, God-forsaken, hellhole in the world, and tell Jeffords to start packing.

Get out the globe and find the most miserable, God-forsaken, hellhole in the world, and tell Jeffords to start packing. Forgive me, I'm British, so France is precisely that to me. ;)

Senator Lott was on WABC radio this afternoon and said he had NO contacts with Jeffords about any switch and said that the NEW chairman of the committee was going to be excellent (paraphrasing here)........
Please do not react hysterically to every rumor designed to cause mischief......

"Let me see if I got this straight.
Everytime there is a change in majority, Jeffords want to change teams."
Yeah that's it. That's why he was the Media widely hailed him for his "courage". Wonder what they'd say now?

I was thinking make him Ambassador to Afganistan! But Chad would be a good one too, or perhaps Zimbabwe.

Maybe one of these tribunals we read about would be approprtate. How does the Bible put it: you are neither hot nor cold so I spit you out of my mouth.

Emailed Lott to kick Jeffords out on his ass.
Lott wasn't going to do the Homeland Security bill--
Then he got a W-Boot-A-Gram.
(Send Lotts of those, Mr. President.)
