Lawyers File Class-Action Against McDonald's Claiming Its Burgers and Fries Are Making Kids Fat

N E W Y O R K, Nov. 21 Are Big Macs hazardous to children's health?
Lawyers have filed a class-action lawsuit against McDonald's on behalf of New York children who have suffered health problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. In federal court in Manhattan on Wednesday, a lawyer alleged that the fast-food chain has created a national epidemic of obese children. Samuel Hirsch argued that the high fat, sugar and cholesterol content of McDonald's food is "a very insipid, toxic kind of thing" when ingested regularly by young kids. The plaintiffs include a Bronx teen who ate every meal at McDonald's for three years while living in a homeless shelter. Another is a 13-year-old boy from Staten Island who says he ate at McDonald's food three to four times a week and is now 5-foot-4 and 278 pounds. McDonald's lawyer Brad Lerman insisted the lawsuit was a frivolous attempt to cash in on the Golden Arches, "the kind of lawsuit that shouldn't be in court." "People don't go to sleep thin and wake up obese," Lerman said. "The understanding and comprehension of what hamburgers and french fries do has been with us for a long, long time." McDonald's has asked Judge Robert Sweet to dismiss the case, arguing those who filed the claims cannot show their health woes were caused by Big Macs and insisting the company has never misled customers about its food. The judge did not immediately rule on the request. |
I'd say if more parents would kick their kids out of the couch and onto sports teams or intramural activities, we would not be seeing any of these problems.
McD has plenty of folks who would say that eating their product has no negative effect, Im sure. I just recently heard a story about a guy near here that is considered to hold the Big Mac eating record. He has eaten at least 2 a day for years and if I remember correctly has eaten 30,000 some Big Macs. Hes not fat, and from what I understand is actually a rather small man.
McDonald's sells salads too.
I'd guess that Teddy Kennedy ate at McDonald's "BIGTIME" if I'm reading this "medical" conclusion correctly.
Its fortunate then that we wont need these lawyers much longer. In the near future an TIA Database Auxilliary Alarm will be triggered at the Pentagon any time you exceed the DNFII (Dietary Nazi Fat Ingestion Index) and be forwarded to the local branch office of the CDC. Government saviours will then fine the evil international conglomerate that was forcing you to eat fat and a government approved doctor will make a mandatory dietary rehabilitation appointment for you at one of their special facilities. OOooh, I cant wait...
That's just silly. No judge in a federal court ever rules immediately on a motion like this-- he has to read the papers, have his clerks do research, and write an opinion that will stand up to appellate scrutiny. Especially in this case, which will be a precedent for the scores of fatty food lawsuits bound to follow, Judge Sweet is going to take his time.
BTW, I have had cases before Robert Sweet, and he is a good judge--smart, honest, and in no way in the pocket of the plaintiffs' class-action lawyers.
Arrrrgh!! This stuff just makes me see red!
What part of cause and effect do these morons not understand?
It's not the burgers and fries making 'em fat, it's the fact that they are gorging themselves.
Sort of like a skydiver whose parachute has failed... it's not the falling that kills.
It's that sudden stop at the end.
The tort lawyers are getting richer and they are hot to trot again--this time it's fast food that will make them even richer. Tort lawyers fully backed RATS in the election. Does anyone wonder why? Lawyers are scum, but nothing is done to rein them in. Does anyone think that Congress, mostly lawyers, will ever pass tort laws that limit these frivolous and costly law suits? Get real!
Yeah, that's right. McDonald's is completely responsible for fat kids. Please.
It's not the burger, it's the fries and that honkin' big cup of soda that does it. The "obesity epidemic" began after we started listening to these "experts" and started eating low-fat/high carb.
That's just when Bangor505 b**ch slapped the frog, and said, "Get the H*ll outta my way, you cheese eating surrender monkey!"
Hehehe
light humor with special sauce included...
