Left Winger Tom Paine In All Out Push To Have Moderate Republican Senators Switch to Daschle-crats
NY Times, tompaine.com ^ | 11/20/02 | mhg1000

According to Tom "Liberal Conspiracy Theorist" Paine,

Control of the U.S. Senate once again falls to Trent Lott and a band of GOP radicals who call themselves “conservative.” They’re anything but that. Miscasting a thin electoral victory as a mandate, they’ll move an agenda designed to repay their corporate funders and please their activist base. They’ll gut the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. Pack federal courts with anti-choice, anti-consumer judges. Excuse corporate wrongdoing with wrist slaps. Shift taxes from the wealthy to working families. Senate GOP moderates like Olympia Snowe, Lincoln Chafee and Arlen Specter must be thinking: MY constituents didn’t vote for this agenda. It’s not one that MY conscience and values support. That’s what Jim Jeffords thought when GOP radicals ran the Senate in 2000. He did something courageous: He became an Independent and caucused with Democrats, wresting Senate control from Lott. Now, Working Assets is urging Snowe, Chafee and Specter to "pull a Jeffords," says co-founder Michael Kieschnick. "They should switch -- not for any love of Democrats, but for the majority of Americans who favor environmental protection, reproductive choice, and other moderate policies." "It’s a long shot," Kieschnick admits. "But citizens of good conscience should let these senators know they admire independence."

A nauseating display of going against the wishes of the voters. Can Democrats ever win by playing fairly? When will clueless liberals like Paine ever learn?

These guys posted this ad about a day early -- the story today is that Jeffords may be trying to get back into the GOP. So much for "courage."

If a majority of Americans wanted that, why did they vote the way they did on 5 Nov?

They have ruined Tom Paine's name. Why don't they just send over the Ernst Rohm and SA Brownshirts and force them to switch parties?

Jeffords Eyeing Return to GOP?

Defacto Democratic Sen. Jim Jeffords, I-Vt., cost the GOP control of the Senate when he jumped ship in May 2001 and voted to make Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., majority leader.

But now, with Republicans taking over and Jeffords faced with minority status, Vermont's man of integrity apparently wants back in.

Reports the Washington Times:

"According to a senior Senate leadership source, the election results were barely in before Mr. Jeffords' office put out feelers to his former party's leaders. The message? That the Vermonter would be happy to caucus with the GOP — so long as he retained his committee chairmanship."

So far GOP reaction has been underwhelming:

"Republican leaders rightly rolled their eyes," the Times said.

This is Bill Moyers son who is funded by $2 M from daddy that he siphons off of a trust he is supposed to be managing. Moyers lives on the taxpayer teat and bites the nipple that suckles his worthless orifice.

Once again I am up against this phrase "reproductive choice". It's misleading. I think they mean abortion. Otherwise reproductive choice could mean abstinence, using birth control, choosing with whom and when to reproduce all of which choices are open to everyone in this country without the need for legislation or litigation. I ask again, who is getting all these abortions? How many are being performed yearly? What are the demographics? Give me some facts and figures, not emotionally loaded, euphemistic catch phrases.

It's been posted here on FR a few times. Apparently he's been sending out "feelers."

I think the big issue from his perspective is that Vermont isn't going to get a nickel of federal money for anything as long as they are represented in the Senate by two @ssholes like Jim Jeffords and Pat Leahy.

Senate GOP moderates like Olympia Snowe, Lincoln Chafee and Arlen Specter must be thinking: MY constituents didn’t vote for this agenda. It’s not one that MY conscience and values support.

If they are, they are also thinking: It's all about ME, ME, ME!

That’s what Jim Jeffords thought when GOP radicals ran the Senate in 2000. He did something courageous: He became an Independent and caucused with Democrats, wresting Senate control from Lott.

He is a coward, and ran as a Republican months earlier with full knowledge of the Bush agenda.

Now, Working Assets is urging Snowe, Chafee and Specter to "pull a Jeffords," says co-founder Michael Kieschnick.

Oh, yes. Working Assets, the long-distance company that donates a percentage of your phone bill payments to looney-left causes. The guys who gave free long distance codes for calls to Congress to stop Clinton's impeachment -- and failed.

"They should switch -- not for any love of Democrats, but for the majority of Americans who favor environmental protection, reproductive choice, and other moderate policies."

"Moderate policies" Miami! You mean, there are leftists that aren't for "reproductive choice"? It's only "moderates" who support "environmental protection"?

It’s a long shot," Kieschnick admits. "But citizens of good conscience should let these senators know they admire independence."

As long as "independence" swings to the left. Otherwise, they would have supported Bob Barr, Zell Miller, and James Traficant.
