I'm really surprised the reporters would even portray the crime this way - unless they believed the gay man was actually *justified* in killing the woman.

Somehow, I don't thing this crime will spur movies, plays and wall-to-wall media attention the way the death of Matthew Shepard did. I don't think there will be clamoring for new hate crime laws either. But the crime was certainly no less brutal and no less premeditated.
