does anyone actually think that if the opportunity existed to work in a mill 8-12 hours a day and do real work they actually would?

It's my understanding that the ones in Lewiston said that they could only work from 10am until 2pm in the afternoons.

The problem people would leave, the reputation of the city as a haven would change overnight,the people could privately support locals who were on the dole for good reason and the problem would become manageable.

How is this for a compromise? Stop paying for all social programs. No welfare, food stamps, housing assistance, English as a second language, nothing. Then, there will no longer be an influx of people looking for a handout, and the people already there looking for a handout will be forced to go elsewhere. This will weed out the good Somalis and the good Americans from the bad ones. Oh wait. I forgot. If you don't want people taking your money, then you're a racist, bigot, homophobe, nazi, and you want to starve grandma and push her down the stairs. Nevermind.

How infuriating to read the blatant distortion of the facts surrounding the mass influx of Somalis into Lewiston, and the Lewiston Mayor's response.

What shoddy journalism. Where did the author get the facts on the number of able-bodied Somali men who actually work? And if there is even ONE Somali business that is employing people and selling goods of some sort in Lewiston, I am surprised.

And how insulting to the French Canadian immigrants who came to Lewiston to work when jobs were plentiful in the mills around the state. There were no handouts to finance the French-Canadian immigrant;s travel here, nor any waiting for them when they arrived.

The Somalis traveled to Lewiston knowing full well no work existed. Many of them stated publicly that they traveled to Maine solely for the generous welfare benefits. (Who can blame them?) A large number of the influx are single-female-headed households with up to nine children;Dad stayed behind in Georgia somwhere because he dislikes the cold.

The reason they now say they came to work, or they didn't know there was no work, or they came for other reasons is because their American advisors told them to cease being truthful on this issue because it gets everyone riled up.

I have lived in many places in the world and have many friends whose skin color is not the same sallow color as my own. And never before have I struggled so hard to find some redeeming quality in a group of people as I have in the Somali people. I see nothing but trouble-makers. The way they distorted the good Mayor of Lewiston's plea and screamed racism is just one example.

If only those who would foist their version of 'diversity' upon the rest of us actually lived in the very midst of the consequences. The fact is, they don't.

A good idea, I think, would be for Maine's people to rally for welfare reform, so the state's beneifts are at the least no more generous than those of other states. This would eliminate an influx of all members of the human race who would travel here solely for generous benefits.

That's probably a more realistic goal. Life as an idealist is always disappointing. But, I am relentless in the face of futility. That is why I continually put forth hopeless, yet principled ideas and decry those who oppose me as socialists. It doesn't help all that much, but at least when I'm 80 years old and we live in a communist utopia, I will know that I at least tried to warn everyone. That will give me some small comfort when Big Brother euthanizes me, upon reaching the maximum age allowed by law.

It worries me that the http://www.geocities.com/stophateinmaine/ website appears to indicate that everyone in Maine hates. I know this is not true, as does everyone who sympathizes with the people of Lewistons' plight, but the effect the dismal numbers would imply is that only 18 people in Maine "do not hate" (the rest of the citizens of Maine MUST be haters). Apparently from the message this website promotes, one can only conclude that everyone in Maine hates, which is simply not true. This is a prime example of typical PC tactics,and is disturbing to say the least. One needs to consider the implications and translations of this information carefully. This is going to be a big story someday, and people will see alot of BS, like this, twisted and misrepresented as fact by those who wish to maintain a draining death grip on US.
Instead of sending these leeches to an economicaly depressed area, how about sending them to to the luxurious gated communities of Washington, DC. I'm sure they will assimilate well there. They could put up a little stand on the corner next to the gates, and the wealthy representatives who live there could donate a little of their "cost of living" pay raise they voted for themselves (wish I could do that), to sponser FGM's for other traitors to this country! These are not my values. This is not what I grew up learning. This not a better way of existance. Multiculturalism is not what I want. I think majority should rule, and that, my friend, is one of the principal values this country is based on. Who is the majority in Lewiston? Do they no longer have a say? Are the brainwashed with PC? Why are they having Somalians shoved down their throats? The best intrests of their community are not served. Are they not represented by their own people? Asleep at the wheel to the lull of a comfortable, peacefull, country life more likely. What a sad load of crap. Our preferred way of life is self destructive. THEY ARE NOT HERE TO ASSIMILATE. The persons responsible for making these decisions are not here to assimilate either.

I loved your post and the link was great. I immediately went there and sent them a heated email. We all feel the same way about the Somalis, except for about five bleeding heart idiots in Lew/Aub. The rest of the bleeding heart idiots that marched in that stupid parade were from Portland.

The only person that tried to speak out for US was Larry Raymond, and we all know what happened with that!
