Two Christian writers find Gospel themes in 'Potter'

As the latest silver-screen version of Harry Potter's kid-wizardry arrives this month with the usual glimpse into a world of Muggles and magic, two Christian writers say the stories offer more: a glimpse of the Gospel.

"Some people will tell you they've found 64 specific places where Harry Potter illustrates witchcraft, but my approach was that I could do the same thing and find the Gospel," said Connie Neal, author of the book "The Gospel According to Harry Potter: Spirituality in the Stories of the World's Most Famous Seeker" (Westminster John Knox Press). "I found more than 80 parallels." ad click here!

My wife and kids just left for this movie, I would go to but I am stuck at the office watching people build cubicles.

I've always wondered if those who design cubicles work in cubicles.

I don't know but it sure takes a long time to put them together. I got here at 7 this morning hoping to be out by noontime. But it looks like another couple of hours at least.

"We can use the books for the sake of the Gospel rather than shutting the door on them."

Satan always tries to mix good with evil. Just like offering you some dirty water to drink.

The Potter movies are two of the best I've seen recently. My wife and I don't have kids yet and we enjoyed them both immensely. Highly recommended.

I lease my own office now, but I miss being in a cubicle listening for the boss's footsteps while I browse FR. I wonder if I can have a cubicle constructed here just for old time's sake?

You sure seem to know a lot about how Satan operates. Very curious.

When I see the movie, I plan to enjoy it for what it is, a fun and entertaining story. Looking too hard for the "message" of the movie, whether the gospel message or satanism or whatever, defeats the purpose of going to see it in the first place. Not everything movie needs to have a deep message.

Gospel themes in a movie about witchcraft and sorcery, kind of like finding swampland in Arizona isn't it?

And watching Harry Potter to learn about witchcraft and sorcery is as frustrating an exercise as watching a Gilligan's Island marathon to learn about surviving on a deserted island.

Other books you would probably find fascinating: Bill Clinton Is a Republican, by Ima Idiot; The Gipper and Me (subtitled, My Lifelong Friendship With Ronald Reagan), by Saddam Hussein; Hillary Clinton; The Supermodel Years by Jennifer Flowers
