Pelosi on The Today Show: "I'm a Conservative Catholic"
The Today Show

Posted on 11/15/2002 4:25:22 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Matt Lauer just completed an interview with Nancy Pelosi. After some standard stuff about her "historic" role as the first woman to lead a congressional party, Lauer asked a a pretty probing question:

"When Republicans chose Newt as their leader, Democrats were quick to say they had gone too far right. Why shouldn't the Republicans now say that in choosing you, the Democrats have gone too far left?"

Pelosi answered by stating that while she represented her district in SF (implying that she was being very liberal in representing a very liberal district), she will lead "right down the center" of the Dem caucus.

She then added the following statement: "When people call me a liberal, I call myself a conservative Catholic."

I had heard Pelosi make the same statement in an interview yesterday, so this clearly seems to be a standard part of her defense to the charge that she's too liberal to lead successfully.

I'm not Catholic, but I have to assume that many true "conservative Catholics" will be upset by hearing Pelosi claim that label. It is hard to imagine an authentic conservative Catholic supporting unrestricted abortion, including partial birth abortion, as does Pelosi.

Pelosi failed to vote to ban PBA even when an exception was included for the life of the mother. I think it is thus fair to categorize her as a pro-abortion extremist. Given that record, to go on national TV and call herself a conservative Catholic seems the height of gall and duplicity.

As a sidenote, Pelosi also trotted out what the Dems have apparently decided to make their new theme: "Safety and Soundness," apparently some combination of national security and economic progress. Instant nominee for the "Lamest Political Slogan of the Decade."

Thanks for the correction on the Gallileo story. I had been missinformed on that. I still question the assertion that the Catholic church has always been against all forms of abortion. A Pastoral Directive issued from the Vatican and a Papal Bull would seem to prove otherwise.

Peter Singer suggests that for perhaps a month after birth parents should be entitled to dispose of unwanted children), it is not surprising that the Senate has what deserves to be called an "Infanticide Caucus." The caucus has at least three members. "Two of them, Russ Feingold, Democrat of Wisconsin and Frank Lautenberg, Democrat of New Jersy, identified themselves when, during the Sept. 26, 1996 debate on partial-birth abortion, Rick Santorum, Republican of Pennsylvania, asked: Suppose during such an abortion (during which a baby is delivered feed first until all but a portion of the skull is outside the mother, then its skull is punctured, its contents vacuumed, then collapsed) the baby slips all the way out of the birth canal. Should killing the baby even then be a permissible choice? Neither senator would say "no." "During the Oct. 20, 1999, debate Barbara Boxer, Democrat of California, joined the caucus: "Santorum: 'You agree, once a child is born, separated from the mother, that that child is protected by the Constitution and cannot be killed. Do you agree with that?' "Boxer: 'I think when you bring your baby home...' "She said more. What she would not say was 'yes.'"Peter Singer suggests that for perhaps a month after birth parents should be entitled to dispose of unwanted children), it is not surprising that the Senate has what deserves to be called an "Infanticide Caucus." Jews, of ALL people, should NOT be pro-choice like this....it's sickening. The whole race was almost wiped out. They should ALL be pro-life.

Pelosi says she's a conservative Catholic. I can guarantee she is not. I AM A CONSERVATIVE CATHOLIC. In fact I was once a Conservative democrat until I got saved in 1990.

No conservitave Catholic could possibly vote for anyone in a party that believes in abortion, partial or otherwise.

How dare this broad be so disrespectful of her religion and her church.

I suggest she make a trip to confession and ask for forgivness.

I sent the following to the Archbishop through their website:

Archbishop William J. Levada:

I just saw Nancy Pelosi on the TODAY SHOW with Matt Lauer. She claimed that she was a "conservative Catholic." As a fellow Catholic, I was appalled. Pelosi is one of the leading supporters of abortion and even voted for partial birth abortion, more properly labeled infanticide. How can she be a member of the Church?

=========================================

The webmaster wrote back and assured me he would pass it on to the Archbishop. He also asked my permission to use the letter as a letter to the editor in their publication.

Fellow Catholics, this has gone on long enough. Those abortion supporters who are Catholic elected officials need to be removed from the Church.

She's a not-so-bright, uninformed, disgrace to Catholicism then. Or, just another liberal, RAT-liar. YOU decide!

She then added the following statement: "When people call me a liberal, I call myself a conservative Catholic."

I suppose that even for a Catholic half way into Heaven is better than nothing.

Much like being halfway pregnant.

Dims do have the uncanny ability to reduce absolutes to fractions such as 'more or less' to serve their filthy purposes.

When done reducing moral truths to the same level of importance as 'breaking wind' they hook their thumbs in their armpits and strut around like Mussolini as if to say "smart feller I", "I feller smart"!

Try saying that five times as fast as you can!

Did you get this? She should be challenged on her theology. What's her "conservative Catholic" take, I wonder, on the Body and Blood?

Great work. I don't think she's going to get away with this. For that matter, after the outcry that is bound to arise, I bet she will never publicly claim again to be a conservative Catholic.

I have Faith in Christ,I just don't have faith in the Catholics running the church. I think the Catholic church has lost the Holy Spirit. How else can you explain the pedophiles priests?
